Upgrading from "Styro-Bator", Any reccomendations?

I have definately decided after temp spikes and not so hot hatch rates to upgrade from my styrofoam bator "LG". I would like to know everyone's thoughts on their past experiences with various other types. I am hatching Marans and do not need a ton of losses. : ( I have no plans on considering a Hova-bator as a new option.

Anything Brinsea or Rcom.

I have 3 LG's with turners and fans. Then I bought my Brinsea Octagon 40 and it
opened a new world of hatching up to me.

My Hova Bator Genesis 1588 is a styrofoam incubator and it holds the temp. and humidity great, I've had great hatches with it so far. I have 2 1588's and one Hova Bator turbo fan that I use for hatching. Good luck!

If yo want to move up from the Hova-bator type incubators, then Brinsea is the way to go. the octagon 10, 20, or 40 are truly great incubators.

I have the older style Octagon 40. The only problem I have with it is it hatches
way too many eggs and we have WAY too many chickens

Thanks PurpleChicken! I had seriously looked at a "oct 20" but was not sure whether or not to believe the hype. You know how ever company always toots their own horn..lol
I wanted to hear from someone who had practical experience with the unit before just taking the advert seriously. My other two serious considerations were the RCom20 and the Turn-X6. I would love for some chime ins on those models as well.

I don't know much about the Turn-X but I do know about the Rcom20.
Several members here have them and are happy with them. I was gonna
buy one but then I found my OCT40 used for $175 and snatched it FAST.

The Rcom, which is distributed by Brinsea, is more a "set it and forget it"
type bator. The Octagons are more "hands on".

Either way they both live up to the hype.

Last thought: I've had great hatches and bad hatches in all my bators.
I'd rather good eggs in my Little Giant with a water wiggler than bad
eggs in my Brinsea. I know, I'm stating the obvious.

The Lyon incubators are also as good as the Brinsea ones. I own the TX-6 (2) and the TX-7 and will not buy anything else ever again. Everything is controled from outside the unit, egg turning, and humidity- The only problem would be the TX's do not hold many eggs, only 18 large fowl (but for me, they usualy all hatch). However, Lyon makes a larger unit as well, the RX, or Roll-X which holds about 70 or so large fowl eggs. I do not remember what the actual number is, and I am being too lazy to get up and look LOL. The RX's though, you need a seperate unit to hatch in, as you will never be able to get the turner out with a bunch of eggs in there. I use my Roll-X to turn large fowl, (has a large fowl grid) and then move them over to the TX's for the last 3 days. I thien use my TX's specifically for bantam eggs, which will hold 26 each depending on size of bantam.
You can usually find a TX on Ebay at a good price, sometimes a Roll-X

I think if you went with either Brinsea or Lyon(Marsh) you would not regret it one bit.

I have an Octagon 40. I would definitely buy another in a heartbeat.
