(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

YES! Extremely New!

Will get chickens on June 11th, 2013. We ordered chickens 2 days ago - yesterday went and got most starter supplies for the chicks - better hurry to build a coop before they are big enough to go outside!!!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

None - 10 are on their way, Yikes!!!

(3) What breeds do you have?

I think leghorns? 4 white, 3 brown, 3 black. Does a different color mean a different breed? The person at the feed store said they will all be compatible. I did the order over the phone then went to visit the store and get some pointers.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Did an Internet search

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

ATV riding, canoeing, camping, hunting, shooting, gardening. All the things that get me into the outdoors.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with my wife.
Have a dog and cat.

Don't worry! You're going to do just fine with your chicks. They won't need a coop until they are old enough to live outside full time, which (weather permitting) is at around 6 weeks of age. Until then they can stay indoors in a brooder. You will find designs for both here, in the Coops section. And in the Learning Center you will find some articles on raising chicks and more on housing, feeding and all those little essentials to keep your flock healthy and happy. Enjoy!

Hey, UPMike, another outdoors guy here. Welcome to BYC. Any problems when you get your birds - someone here will have the answers.
