What did you do in the garden today?

We processed our apples into about 24 cups of raw cider than boiled it on a medium simmer for several hours until it reduced and started to thicken. I checked the consistency with the cold plate method. The 24 cups gave us a grand total of about 1 pint of syrup, but boy is it tasty.
That is the part I missed...boiled it to simmer! I got it now, I will definitely give it a go.

Sounds as though you had a bit of hard cider fermented with ambient yeast.
I have no idea, I learned to make apple cider vinegar online. I checked it often and noticed the so wonderful aroma is so enticing, the bubble and I tasted it.....heavenly, and happy and also no sugar added...so no guilt 😄

Canned applesauce - there is an abandoned orchard by me so picked two buckets. It does have an owner who apparently lives out of the country. It's a well kept secret in our town that you can get apples there that haven't been sprayed. Going to make some apple pie filling tomorrow and can that as well. The tomatoes are rolling in and I'm freezing them. The weather this week is really coo,l so going to get my roaster out and make a big batch of salsa. Now if my peppers would just catch up!

An abandoned orchard - you're so lucky! Do you have any idea what varieties of apples are in there?

If it ain't one thing, it's another.
Unfortunately no. I do know whatever they are they make excellent sauce. I don't pick a lot because I don't live in the development it's in, so don't want to press my luck.

The 18v LXT batteries that I got from Ebay for my old Makita drills didn't fit, so I ordered a charger and Makita air pump that uses that type of battery. I got the Makita air pump today and tried it on my Rubicon Jeep tires. I set it at 33 psi and topped off 4 tires. It's the best portable air pump that I ever owned. It replaces the power cord and cigarette lighter port one that I have. I'll probably give that one away.

I won't be buying batteries for my old Makita drills...........I will throw them out.
