A couple of my hens have developed an upper respiratory infection. I currently have them on oxytetracycline soluble powder mixed in water, and using vet Rx. Does anyone else use the oxytetracycline for this? Anything else I can be doing for the ladies?

Antibiotics are not always helpful unless you know what disease you are treating. Tylan (tylosin,) oxytetracycline, doxycycline, denagard, and Baytril are some that may treat MG (mycoplasma gallisepticum) a bacterial disease. If you are treating a virus, such as infectious bronchitis or ILT, or a fungal disease, those will not respond to antibiotics. Coryza, another bacterial disease is better treated with sulfa antibiotics.Vet RX is not a medication, just herbal oils and camphor which acts like Vicks.

What symptoms have you seen? MG frequently causes watery bubbly eye and facial or eyelid swelling, congestion, and sneezing. Here is a good link for symptoms of those and other diseases:

Make sure that your coop has good overhead air ventilation, minimal dust, no mold, and is not too warm. Pictures of the chicken are welcome.
