You done exactly what I was gonna suggest. I tend to cull my birds after about 4 or 5 years anyways, hens and roosters. I do try to keep the girls about 2 to 3 years older than the rooster to help calm the young boy down.

You're right, the old biddies can do a pretty fair job of teaching manners to the young cockerels. My young George has been pretty good, probably because Silver kept him in line. I'm hoping he doesn't lose his mind now that he has no competition.
