If you want some help with that Grey Goose bottle, I'll bring along Jeanie aka "funnyfarm." She and I can do some damage on a bottle. It might be a good thing she didn't make it to the PA chickenstock....

Pudding, the backbone of British food and none more than a Spotted Dick Pudding. The name of this classic English pudding, Spotted Dick Steamed Pudding, usually will raise a smile or look of abject horror which is why some prefer the less-well-known title of “Spotted Dog Pudding”. The spotted part refers to the raisins and currants in the dough and the word dick' is a colloquial word for pudding. This is not a pudding for the faint-hearted or those on a diet. Made from suet, flour and dried fruit it is high in calories. It is, however, the perfect pudding for a treat on a cold winter's day.

Tim Reid of The Times of London reports that sales of the spongy steamed pudding known in Britain for the past century as "spotted dick" have plummeted in recent years. Retailers wanted to know why, so the Tesco supermarket chain conducted a survey and identified the problem lickety-split: shoppers are embarrassed to be seen purchasing the product, let alone ask for it by name. Tesco's proposed solution? Rename it "spotted richard."

The very idea so perturbs members of the arch-traditionalist Pudding Club (their slogan: "Mad About Puddings") that they have already denounced it as an outrage. "Spotted dick has always been spotted dick and there is no reason to change that," snipped chief pudding taster Simon Coombe in The Times. But political correctness may well win the day.

Incidentally, no one knows for sure where the name "spotted dick" came from, though some say "dick" was at one time a synonym for "dough." Add raisins and steam for two hours — voila, you have spotted dick (or Richard, if you're fashionably prudish).

You don't need to make me anything! Shoot, after 2 1/2 days in our portable refrigerator you may be wondering 'what was I thinking!' I'm pretty sure the custard sauce will make it just fine. The dick might be a bit dry, but if you nuke it, well, we can see!
