I might have quite a few extra roos because I am hatching out a bunch of eggs - will be (possibly) silkie, JG, Orps or easter eggers depending on what hatches. Mostly silkies is my guess. Might have extra pullets also.. All from BYC member eggs.

They will be too young to eat at the time of chickenstock - I'd love to gift them to whoever wants them so I'll post what I have before I leave to see if anyone will take them off my hands

. (Would hate to drive two hours with a car full of chicks and no one wants them!

). They won't have been exposed to the outside or any other birds at that age.

Anything else I can bring? I don't have any connections, since I'm a recent transplant but maybe I can bring food of some sort. Any word on an approximate head count?

Heather-the free birds always go :) if you have silkies to process PC will love you! LOL

if you want to bring something I would love people to bring soda-so far I havent any any volunteer for that?? Im not saying to bring enough for everyone just whatever you feel comfortable doing and then I will post on the first post to update so I know what to keep telling people to bring-thank you so much for helping with that-

If I had to guess Id say 100 people are coming? Now I did wind up inviting a bunch of locals I have done business with -they want to learn and get in on those raffles haha

Oh good! Well, I have 36 eggs (silkies) in the bator so I am sure at least half will be roos (of those that make it to hatch). They will be too young to eat, but I'll bring what I've got and anyone who wants them is welcome to them. I'll have extra pullets also, I bet. It's not like I'd be making a mint selling them anyways, I just wanted to try a hatch of something but guineas so I don't mind giving them up to either a good home, a good dinner or both (since anyone who wants to eat them is going to want to feed them a little more at 5 weeks!).

I can bring soda - not sure enough for 100 but I'll fill up the car with as much as I can.

Im sure you could easily sell your silkies for a few dollars apiece -you should make a little money to make up for gas and soda costs-seriously-I sold mine for 10$ each at 4- weeks old-they were split lav silkies but either way dont undercut yourself for your work-all us BYCers know what it takes to raise them even to 2 months of age!

You DO NOT have to buy sodas for 100+ people silly-only what you feel you can do-I would never expect that-but thank you for your generosity-very very sweet

ok peeps Im off to make a coop/tractor by myslef and photos to come if Im still alive!!!

Good plan! I don't know much about selling chickens, especially roosters. That's one reason I made my hatch 'interesting' breeds so hopefully I can rehome them. Don't see much call for leghorn roosters, f'rinstance. No one even wants to eat them! Even though I'm veg, I don't mind if others eat em, just don't process mine in front of me. But I want to make sure my roos don't end up as fighters, etc. ick! (although the vision of a fighting silkie is kinda funny).

Have fun with your coop building - that's what I am doing today also. My coop #2 is almost done, but it needs a lot more work on the run!

What a day!!! Building the meatie pen all by myself-half way there! I built a wooden frameone so that when the meaties are processed OCT 3rd-I have a run all built for my split lavs to winter in!! yah....In the midst of all the commotion today I forgot my beloved hen "Einsteiners" is a new mommy for the first time-1 split lav silkie and 1 2nd generation OE-and its gorgeous! I want to hatch out more more more--Einsteiners is in my avatar:)

Where are the pics?!!!!

Good job on the coop. Pics of that too?

Jeremy has to get in gear and build a new coop. Gretchen is coming to visit in two weeks and we are getting more babies and we need more coops! He's gonna be able to build them in his sleep after all of this. These will be his fourth and fifth ones this year, the last 4 built within the last month. Poor guy!
