(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? - Brand new, 1st time owning chickens new project for the husband and me. Got chickens today from Tractor Supply. A friend/neighbor gifted us with a partially built chicken coup, just a few things to finish up and once the girls are big enough, their new home will be ready.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? - 5
(3) What breeds do you have? Golden Comets
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? - Fascinating to watch and future fresh eggs
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? - Gardening, Making jewelry and handbags sewing in general, Cooking, of course my hobbies are more life sustaining projects nowadays.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. We are mostly retired, trying to earn extra side hustle money to supplement our income. Husband was getting some woodwork/furniture repairs, but that's dried up and I do real estate photography and it's pretty much dried up as well for the time being. 3 grown sons, one is a firefighter/EMT on the South Carolina coast, one just got out of the Marines and is in Seattle, was just hired by Boeing, fingers crossed the new economy doesn't ruin that for him, and the youngest is still trying to figure out what to do.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I googled a question about heat lamps and an answer from this forum popped up in the responses. I thought - what fun, have I found "my people"??? LOL!
