Urban Chicken Run Fun!

I had worked on some farms in my teen years, but never felt motivated to have backyard chickens, until my friend who had a flock of 6 is moving to Hawaii and asked me to take on her crew. I said yes... begrudgingly... That was March, 2022. Now I'm hooked! My daughter has a cold today and I'm so happy to be staying home with her and checking on the chickens... and OF COURSE taking care of my human daughter!

I have 21 chickens ranging from 6 weeks old to elderly.
My biggest concerns right now are:
PREDATOR PROOFING... though I'm in the city, there are hawks, possums, hungry dogs, and raccoons here.
NESTING BOXES... I only have 3 or 4 layers right bow, but they all want to nest in the same place and the nesting boxes I try to create are rejected.

I do have some nagging chicken sexing concerns... TRYING be patient and wait it out!!

Hello and welcome to BYC!
For predator proofing use 1/2 inch hardware cloth for the run and ventilation, or any other exposed areas. Do not use chicken wire. Put a apron around the coop with the hardware cloth. Also use predator proof latches.

It's nice to have you here with us! My birds always liked to share the same box (or boxes) too, I wouldn't worry about it. Hope your daughter feels better soon!
