Urgent, chick dying

Looks like there's dried pus or something in both eyes. Flush them well with saline, remove the gunk and apply a little eye ointment in the eye. You can find Terramycin eye ointment at TSC or you can't find that, use triple antibiotic ointment.

Not sure if that's from infection due to respiratory disease or what - but if you can get the eyes cleared, she may improve.

Will have to get saline but can I use water on a cotton ball temporarily? Should I try to gentle pry the lids apart when wet or will that happen on it's own . Sorry to be so needy but this is all new to me. Thanks!!

You can make your own sterile saline. Recipe is 1/2 teaspoon salt per cup of water. Bring to boil for 15 minutes. Let cool and use.

Store bought saline is fine too. Plain water may irritate the eyes.

If the eyes don't open when you attempt to flush them out. Apply a warm compress to the eye to help loosen the gunk so you can get it open. Just go slow. You may have to work on it in stages if she's stressed.

Thank you so much. I can see her eyes when I open her lids. The lids are swollen so hopefully the warm compress will help with that. Thank you so much!

Please keep me posted on how she gets along.
Well, I'm sad to say that she didn't make it. She died in her blanket on the heating pad while I rocked her. I tried so hard but it wasn't enough. I just don't think she was strong enough but I still feel guilty. Will bury her in her blanket with her toy . Thanks to everyone for their help.

I'm not sure if it is to be honest there are better experts than me on here. The beak looks off but it could just be the lighting. Does anyone else see it in the pictures? Parrot beak?

I'm sorry to hear she died. Some chicks just fail to thrive. You did the best you could to help her. :hugs
