I have a 3 week old frizzled cochin chick. It was eating fine and appeared healthy. In fact it was the most aggressive of the 2 chicks that we have. Suddenly, yesterday the chick appeared listless and he/she was extending it's neck and opening its beak as if to get air. There is no wheezing. He extends one of his legs straight out in front of him. He can move the leg but won't bend it. The chick has lost weight as it is a lot lighter than the other chick. We have been feeding the chick an electrolyte solution mixed with oat water via an eyedropper every 30 minutes since yesterday. I am not sure if the chick hurt it's leg trying to get out of it's box or if it has some disease. I have separated the chick from the other one. What can I do to help this chick? I hope it doesn't die. This is our first experience with chicks and we certainly could use your help. Thanks.

Is there something lodged in the chick's throat? I'm not sure about the leg though. That is odd. Hopefully someone else will see this that can offer more advice.

Is the chick able to eat/drink on its own? How are the stools?

The opening of the mouth might mean the water you are giving him is going in to his lungs! I learned the hard way, be careful when giving a chick liquid this way. Try sticking his beak in water and see if he will drink. What are you feeding them?
