Hey all. Excuse any misspellings I'm still really shaken up. I had a reptile heat mat explode and almost set fire. I woke up in time and took care of everything but I had to move all my animals to a safe smoke free room.

I took the chicks out of their brooder as it's located in my room. They're currently in a crate in another room but I'm getting worried. They're 12 days old. They have some feathers. Will they be okay?

The room temp is not warm enough for the chicks to rest. It should be 80-90 F.
I know 😭. But their brooder is where the smoke was. I'm trying to get it aired out. I've got a fan running and windows open. Hopefully the towels will help insulate them.

The chicks can do without heat for a while. But if they start to peep loud you have to give them something warmth.

Do you have a safe electric heater. A lamp for heating muscles ? A solid pot with a firm solid lid packed in a blanket or sweater?

Until you get a safe heat source try an electric heater in the room and maybe a regular lamp maybe a bendy one to shine the light above the broader. Any light regular gives off heat too. Then get a better heat sourceasap.. even a regular heating pad would work. Warm water in a jug, bottle, medical compress. Something to help keep them warm.

Thank you guys!! They seem to be doing pretty good so far. No loud peeping yet. They're both just weirded out by the crate 😅. Hopefully they can go back in the brooder soon.

Oh I forgot to respond to this one! The heat source wasn't from their brooder. I have snakes, and one of the reptile under tank mats exploded.
