I say "possibly" attacked because I'm not 100% sure what happened. This chick was zipping under my broody last night. This morning I went to the coop to check on them. I found the mom and her chick in the middle of the coop - another hen had shoved her out of the nest box to lay, I think. I should have separated her, I know.
When I found the chick it was on its back not moving, the poor mom just staring at it. I picked it up and it was pretty cold. It cheeped loudly but its neck was floppy and couldn't move its head. Opened its eyes for a little bit. She's able to kick her legs pretty good but doesn't attempt to stand.
I don't see any blood or visible injuries. I assume if a hen attacked it there would be much more blood. Maybe she got stepped on.
I brought her inside and put her under a heat plate to keep warm, and tried to position her so her head is supported. She is breathing steadily. I am concerned she might have a broken neck or something. Anything else I can do for her?
