Holiday humbugs

I, personally love Christmas season. I like the Christmas songs in the shops, the Christmas carols on TV, the Christmas movies especially the 3 Ghost at Christmas, the decorations in everywhere, the joyful people, I love it ❤️ ❤️

There is nothing to indicate this is Christmas in my house, except lots of food and eggnog drink, i love eggnog with rum. No invite friends/families gather. None. Yes, I give out present like 1 mango for each person, no wrapping, just a nice beautiful juicy mango itself.

I grew up with mom making a big Christmas for us kids. In my early adult life, I was busy with work and studies, trying to get some sleep and live my life.

I am the cook, the cleaner, the shopper, the planner, the every thing so one year in my mid 30 I stopped the Christmas work and it has been so wonderfully lovely since. We go out to eat, watch Christmas things on tv, cook whatever fancy, not inviting anyone over, but go out for meals with families and friends.

Yesterday I received 2 round tins of cookies as Christmas presents from a family member.

I said thank you and asked that please don't give me Xmas presents i the future as I don't do Xmas presents. Spending quality time is what I am after.

When I saw the cookies tins, I instantly thinking of diabetic. Why give something for the sake of giving Christmas present? I would rather spend quality time with this family member.

I would appreciate the Christmas songs more if they didn't start playing in September. . for the life of me I can't stand it. Maybe it's because the temps don't start dropping here until late October, early November. I just can't get into the spirit when I'm still wearing t-shirts:confused:

Yes, Christmas songs in September is tooo early!!! They are just over doing it. Snow makes it feels more like Christmas.

Like over here hot cross buns at Easter start selling in January, by the time Easter comes around, I just don't want hot cross buns. January we still trying to get over the festive season last Christmas.

I am so hot over here that when I watch Christmas movies I feel cooler because the movies have snow and people in the movies all wrapped up.

I love Christmas ... the music, the lights, the food .. but during Covid, the whole feel changed for me. The pre, the expectations, the expense, the rush, the whole vibe, have all been cripplingly overwhelming. I told my family and friends that this year, I'm stepping back. I'm paring everything down to the basics of what's important (and affordable) for me and invited them to do the same. We've all reached the point in our lives where we don't need more "stuff."
One sister and my Bestie are sharing the fruits of their gardens with specialty canned produce (I've already requested a jar of Besties brandied peaches!) We have professional-level bakers and candy-makers who have vowed to share, as well.
Another sister has a membership to Longwood Gardens, so an outing day to see the Christmas displays is also on my gift list. I'm taking my Mom to Winterthur, the big DuPont estate in Delaware. If you've never been, Christmas is THE best time to visit. They feature a massive Christmas tree built from thousands of dried flowers - all grown on the estate and recycled from the past year's floral arrangements It's stunning!
