Urgent question about red sack protuding from chick abdomen

Not sure how close you should cut it, but I do know it doesn't hurt them. There are no nerves in the cord so they can't feel it.

I think I would just wait watch and see. As long as the chick doesn't stick it should go ahead and dry off like it should have.

You are fine. We are all learning. Even the people here who have had chickens forever still learn things they didn't know. That is what makes this such a wonderful resource....you pool the amount of knoweledge available on this site and it is amazing!!!! I really hope she does alright and makes it. I am having a lot of trouble keeping my eyes open, however, so I am gonna have to turn in. I will check for updates on her first thing when I wake up. I hope she does alright.

I usually tie off close to the body and then leave just enough cord and such that the thread has enough not to slip off the end. Usually about 1/16in

That's no joke, I wish there would have been internet service way back when the wife and I started. would have made things much easier! I am a one finger typist so that is why it takes me longer to respond.

You have all been tremendous help. I asked my neighbors for advice first but they didn't take me very seriously. Dairy farmers don't spend a lot of time on chickens, I guess.

Thank you!!!
