Urgent question about red sack protuding from chick abdomen

Can I just say that this is the most beautiful thread I ever read.

You are all midwifing (midhusbanding, Okie) a woman through a difficult birth, and it is genuinely inspirational. I am stoned on the migraine drugs I had to take in the wee hours, so everythng has sort of a glow, but I dont think that's it.

I have never been more impressed, or felt more blessed, by all of you; those of us who still care whether anything lives or dies in this world are in the minority and I am honored to know you all.

Alright, tha's about enough of that. Better post now before I decide against it. I'll be embarrassed later, but right now I am practically crying.

Sometimes we just have to get the mushy feelings out.

I think some day more people are going to realize that people matter, feelings mater, and a little animal struggling to survive matters, but I don't think it will be soon. Thbat's one thing I like about BYC....there seems to be a higher than average numberof people who care and value all life.

Hope the headache is better? I used to get migranes (they stopped when I got pregnant) and I know they are horrible!!!

Hijacked thread...maybe that's what I have. I have had a headache for 2 days. I took 1600mg of Ibuprofen before I went to bed and it went away for a few hours but is starting to come back again. No visual stuff...

I want to thank all of you for all your help and encouragement, all night and into today. Sadly my chick died. It choked when I was feeding it and I couldn't revive it. I know I was warned and I really tried to be careful. It's particularly painful because it actually seemed to be doing better and I was gaining hope.

It was my first chick so everything about it was new to me. I really would have been lost without you!

I'll send another message with a gruesome photo of its abdomen. I would like to know if this was a simple yolk sack or if its intestines had prolapsed and if so, if there would have been anything I could have done.

Thanks again.

I am so sorry that happened. You were doing everything humanly possible to save her, so please don't feel guilty. That thing over to the right of the pic looks like it is more than just the yolk sack to me, but I have never seen one with its intestines out. If I had one with that I think I would assume it needed pushed back in.

Edit...I said to the right then realized it is almost in the very center of the pic.

i'd say almost positively that those are intestines. i'm sorry for your loss indeed. at least knowing that it was having some pretty serious herniation can ease your mind about the choking.

thank you for working so hard to try to save that baby.

That little area that looks like a worm is definitely intestines. Sometime you can gently tucked them back in and tie off the cord. Most of the time it's very difficult if not impossible.

So sorry...just know that you did everything you could. I really don't think the chick would have survived even if it had not aspirated.
