URGENT~ SOFT SHELLED EGGS AND A LETHARGIC DUCK!!!

Pics
I was out when the question came in, PetDuck. I have been thinking about ducks and vanilla. I have no clue. sigh. I kind of doubt it would be a problem, but with all that Quackers has gone through, I would hate to throw an obstacle to recovery in her way.

Did she eat any of the worms or other treats? If she is drinking, you could soak some oats (not the flavored kind) in her water and some of the nutrients and calories from the oats would be in the water when she drinks.

Wow. I just read this whole thread. First I had tears of sadness and then tears of joy! I'm so glad that Quackers is doing better.

PetDuck, you have done a great job of being strong and focused on finding Quackers what she needs to get better. It can be incredibly hard to do that in the midst of such a terrifying predicament -when you can't even sleep. I've been there. I am so happy that things are looking up for Quackers.

And I am so pleased with this forum and everyone who helped this duck! What a wonderful place and people we have here.

There sure are some very remarkably smart and nice people on here for sure! Quackers is a lucky duck for making it but I wouldn't have been able to help her as fast or as good without the help of our BYC family!!!
I will get her plain yogurt tomorrow and feed it to her mixed in with water.

Also as for you Amiga, I will definitely try the oats!! I have never heard of doing that!

Thanks guys!

I mixed a tablespoon of non-fat greek yogurt with live cultures with a cup of water and that is all I'm going to give her to drink tonight and the next couple of nights. I fed her some worms and she ate those really quickly but she won't really eat anything else. I tried to feed her crickets, her food, tomatoes, and lettuce but she won't eat any of it!!! I picked her up and set her on top of her cage to examine her and she has little muscle and is very skinny and you can feel her breast bone very prominently and her ribs. I support her and pull one of her feet out from under her and lift it up slightly and unlike usually when she kicks and flaps, she very slowly and gently pulled her foot back. I tuck my hand under her wing and lift it up slightly and she usually freaks out and pulls away but she just sat there and let my expand her wing fully.

She is still kind of lethargic and skinny and has lost a ton of muscle and won't eat! Is it possible that the infection is back?

I am about at the point when I am fully ready to force feed her. If I do, what do I feed?

Get in touch with the vet in the morning. Definitely. If she has been puny for a long time - remember they hide it well - it may take a while to get her back. I would give her whatever she will eat, and try things in her water - a little yogurt for probiotics, some vitamins, some rolled oats, what else? Oh, see if she might like some sardines packed in water with no extra salt. Just a little nibble at a time. That has loads of nutrition. Has a bit of protein, too, so makes stinky poo. But protein ought to help build muscles.

I continue praying for you both. C'mon, Quackers, girl, come back all the way!!!!

Force feeding has the risk of shoving food into her lungs - very rough stuff. Just something to be aware of. You may yet need to tube feed her, but please talk to the vet.

Never have done force feeding so don't know how to tell you what to do there. What if you mix her feed with some slightly warm water making a mash? just a small amount to see if she even eat it. I have no idea if the infection has come back but something must be going on since she isn't eating. She sure can't keep this up.

I will call the vet first thing in the morning. I am going to the store to buy her the sardines in water (no salt), worms, and grubs for her in a minute. I will also make the mash, I was about to ask about that anyways (mindreaders

). I really hope she isn't getting sick again. I just want my girl to get better, and so do you guys obviously!
