URGENT~ SOFT SHELLED EGGS AND A LETHARGIC DUCK!!!

Pics
Pet Duck I was just talking to Haunted55 via phone and since Quackers had 8 baytril shots her tummy may need some help getting back to normal, she suggested you go to pharmacy and ask for Flora Gen 3 they keep it in the frig. and start giving it to her it will get her stomach normal.

I have tubed more than most and I can assure you that it does not phase them and I've even have a peacock that will still try to swallow the tube. Get yourself a scale and start weighing her daily in grams and if she loses more than 20 grams per day you need to tube or she will starve to death.

Do you think this could be from 8 baytril shots, that her stomach is out of whack?

What is Flora Gen 3? Is it a pro biotic? Do they have it at most pharmacies? I will go get it as soon as possible if it will help any.

I don't think I will do the tube feeding, I 'm sorry guys. You all gave me some really great advice but I think it would traumatize her. I will if things get bad again but I just really don't think it is the right thing to do right now. If I knew that it was the only option and it was what was the absolute best thing to do for her I would go ahead and do it. She already hates the vet, hates the car, hates her diaper, and I don't want to do all of those things to her, just to go and have a tube stuck in her throat. I hope you guys understand.

I am going to make a puree for her. What should I put in it? I have oatmeal, lettuce, tomatoes, milk, baby food (for Quackers), eggs, ham, cheese, yogurt and a ton of other stuff that I could put in it.

Like I said, I will tube if she is bad, bad. She is eating a little bit. She eat worms but not her food. Is it possible that she is just spoiled on worms?

Did you get the vitamins that were recommended? and yes Flora Gen 3 is a probiotic. I'm not sure about most pharmacies, I believe Haunted55 gets it at Walmart. I would not put ham eggs or tomatoes or cheese into a puree for her or milk. Keep putting yogurt into her cup of water, and try a slurry of oatmeal small amount of baby food just to get her started. If her tummy is upset from the antibiotic all this different food may upset it more.

I am calling around to find the poultry vitamins. I already tried oatmeal and she didn't want it. I also tried straight baby food and she wouldn't without the worms in it.

I will go to the store to see if they have the Flora Gen 3. Thanks

Would you be able to try syringe feeding instead of tube feeding? I have never tried it with a duck, but ask the vets office if they think it will work. You may not get a lot in her, but you may get enough in to sustain her until her appetite picks up. I am not sure of the risk of aspiration with syringe feeding in a duck, but maybe google it? It might take two people and yes, she will not love it, but it might be what she needs to get some stuff in her.

I can guarantee that syringe feeding will be way more stressful to both bird and human. My 5-6 pound birds get 120ml of food twice a day as long as their crops clear, less if they don't. Each tubing session takes less than three minutes and that includes set up time.
