So I got 4 Narragansett turkey poults about 3 days ago, they are a little bit over a week old. One of the turkey poults WILL NOT eat. I keep bringing her over to the food and she won’t touch it. She is a lot smaller than the other poults. I’m at a loss of what to do. If this goes on for much longer I will lose her. I’ve heard people syringe feed them but I’d like more specifics on that so I don’t do more harm than good.

i love these little guys soooo much and I really don’t want to lose any! They are on 24% chick starter, same as the breeder I got them from.

Cook up some scrambled eggs and see if they'll eat them.
On a side note I'll tell you a story. Last year I raised some turkey poults with a couple chicken chicks. I took out the chick so it could be with other chickens. Guess what happened, the turkeys went on a hunger strike. They would not eat at all. I gave up and put the chick back in and they went back to eating and drinking. No joke, it was the darnest thing.

Thank you! And that made me think... there was 2 chicks in the brooder with them at the breeders house. Maybe this one is slower to learn. I will try scrambled eggs. Turkeys are so silly from what I’ve read! Especially as poults

Chick starter, even 24% protein is not appropriate for turkey poults. They need the higher levels of lysine, methionine, niacin and protein found in a proper turkey or game bird starter for proper development.

I never have any problem getting my poults to eat. Their instinct are different than those of chickens. I use sand as bedding and sprinkle turkey starter on the bedding. They normally start eating within 5 minutes or less of being put in the brooder. It is their instinct to peck at things on the ground. It is not their instinct to eat from a feeder. It may take my poults a couple of days to learn that the stuff in the feeder is also food but they figure it out without any problems.

You can try giving the poult that is not eating some feed mixed with water.

I looked for higher protein food at my local tsc and also another farm store and I can't find it. Is there a certain place I should look?
