Picked up this gorgeous little Easter Egger on Friday. They hatched on Thursday. Looking at its wings I have suspicions that this is a cockerel. Any opinions?

Thanks for y’all’s help in advance.

Far too young to tell. Feather sexing is a trait that has to be specifically bred for. As far as I know  none of the commercial hatcheries breed for it. Maybe some if the smaller private hatcheries do, but none of the ones that typically sell to wholesalers. So at thise age, wing feathers don't mean anything.

Thank you. I’m a first time chicken keeper. This is my second batch of chicks ever. I’m really hoping that we don’t get too attached and can’t keep it.

Glad to hear they are both pullets! I've had chickens for over 10 years and I still get overly analytical at times about if they are pullets vs cockerel.

For future reference, 6-8 weeks is when you can usually tell if a chick is a cockerel and that is when I would ask if I was doubtful. Sometimes you can tell earlier. I've IDed a rooster at just over 2 weeks but that is less common.
