Urgently need ideas to keep chickens entertained indoors

Hi friends.

I'm in Baton Rouge, LA and Hurricane Ida is bearing down on us. I've moved the chickens indoors in their large hurricane crates. My RIR hen WILL NOT stop screeching. What can I put in there to keep them busy?

The only thing I can think of is a bunch of greenery -- assuming you can safely manage to harvest some weeds from your yard at the moment.

I hung a CD from the top of the crate, and that's keeping them quiet for the moment. Everything outside is absolutely soaked & muddy

Lettuce. Chickens love lettuce, hanging it up on a string will keep them occupied

Maybe a winter squash or Overgrown zucchini sliced in half. They will peck at it forever.

I've got kale leaves? Like the kind for salad. I'd go to the store and get one of those things but everything's closed for the storm

If you have a Kong for dogs you can put some treats in it for the birds

I'm going to punch a bunch of holes in a plastic bottle and fill it with treats. We've got kale and some wheat & flax that I'll put in

Any frozen veggies or sunflower seeds you could let them peck at? Wouldn’t give them too much on a normal basis, but temporarily might distract them from the change of home.

Try mixing they’re food with water in a bowl. I would say a 40% food 60% water and it turns in the mush and it keep them busy for a little!!
