I was crossing my fingers hoping for no URIs with this weird cold snap. Well of course my favorite, if mean little bantam Mille fluer ducle cockerel comes down coughing and lethargic this evening. It’s below 30F here and is going to get colder. I’m planning on taking Duke into the house if my parents say yes. He’s a supposedly show quality cockerel or at least that’s what he was sold to me as. His matching hen Delilah is fine . He is coughing with white foam coming from his mouth, hunched over and not being the devil when he sees me so that means something is definitely off( he’s normally untouchably mean)
Im suspecting an URI based on previous dealings with them this year. All I have on hand is BioMycin which is oxytetracycline without a sting. The dose I used for standard sized chickens was 1 cc per 3 lbs. I’ve never treated a bantam for it though, but I assume the dose is much lower than that and he doesn’t even weigh 3 lbs(guessing, will get exact weight soon if internet holds up)
Right now he’s in a bin with hay, shavings, and don’t laugh lol, Great Pyrenees dog hair( I save it after I brush my dogs out be my pigeons love it as nesting material) My plan is to get him warmed up and then give him some BioMycin in the breast. Any tips or advice?
