Usage of lime.

I put in water once or twice, it's not worth it for me, I change their water every other day or every day depending on the weather.

I love it for the coop and run through. Works great!

I see everyone using it for almost everything.putting it in drinking water, dust baths, floors.
Not everyone, since I've had chickens for a lot of years, and never used any kind of lime for any chicken-related purpose.

The only uses I have for lime:
--limestone in a garden to adjust soil pH
--lime (citrus fruit) in the kitchen for cooking

I'm not saying it's bad, just saying that not "everyone" uses it.

I just see everybody using the Saturday line and wondering if it's something I should use to keep bugs away.

My chickens eat bugs that get into the coop/run so I don't worry about them.

If you mean parasites, don't treat them if the birds don't have them. If the birds do have them use permethrin because that actually works. :)

I do sometimes put garden lime into the coop, but that's about the pH of the composting deep litter, not for the benefit of the chickens.

I guess what I'm asking is does anybody use it for anything? Is it good to use it as a preventative? Does it matter? What about other types of lime? I'm just wondering if it's all advertisement?

Okay thank you! My chickens eat the bugs too
