USDA

I worked with USDA inspectors for 25 + years. They ranged in capability from flatout incompetent to high level professional. The individual rejecting this lunch was either flat out incompetent or the cafeteria needed to make more $. If this had been my child or grandchild, the 'stuff' would have been thrown against the fan.

The inspector was there because it was a public school. If a 4 year-old was in a pre-school program at the school, it usually means some sort of intervention, either for a Head Start type program or for a child with disabilities. School cafeterias, nursing home cafeterias etc have to meet USDA guidelines. I think the inspector overstepped in inspecting a home lunch. While we don't have all the details, for all the inspector knew the kid was on a prescription diet provided from home or had food allergies or intolerances. This inspector was out of line, the idea of an inspector is not.

The inspector's job is to help the four-year-olds whose parents think a nutritional lunch is a breakfast bar and Koolaid.

The "Inspector" had NO BUSINESS intruding on this family's PRIVATE PROPERTY....... The lunch sent with this child was PRIVATE PROPERTY!

When the public allows itself to be subservient to UN-ELECTED bureaucrats, the country has cuckolded the Constitution!

DEMAND an accounting for this! This action was OUTRAGEOUS, UNCALLED FOR, and another vulgar intrusion on the liberties of a citizen's judgment on how best to provide for the nutrition of their child!

WAKE UP AND DEMAND THIS GOVERNMENT BACK OFF OF INTRUDING ON OUR LIBERTIES!

If you can't bring yourself to do it just remember this quote:

I know the relevancy of this little story will be a stretch for some, but here it goes;

I was driving down a road that ran parallel to a small river one day and came upon a large sign that read:

THIS LAND IS BEING TERRACED
AND PLANTED WITH GRASSES
TO SLOW RUNOFF
USDA FOREST SERVICE

I drove a bit further and low and behold there was another sign:

THIS RIVER IS BEING DREDGED
BY THE US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS
TO SPEED RUNOFF

I think the river must have been awfully confused by all the good advice it was getting from the government.

I started to comment several different ways in response to this incident but keep changing my post because my intent is not to offend anyone. I am so angry I feel like the top of my head is about to blow off. An even scarier thought to me is the thought of how many other similar incidences of govt. interference are just accepted by parents because "that's just the way it is - it's not that big of a deal." No, it is a big deal. The principle of the thing - our liberty - is a very big deal. We blow off the "little things" and the guvmint inches further and further into our lives. I know some people do not feed their kids properly. There are nonprofits out there to help. But ultimately, children are parents' responsibility, not government's. Remember, there is always a tradeoff. Nothing is free, especially freedom.

Well said by both of you!

If what is said is true, then the inspector overstepped his/her bounds.

I am suspicious of the article because of a couple of things. The article is short with limited details.

Secondly it is posted on a political pundant website known for giving misinformation to flame people up.

While the news can be biased, political pundants of any side are worse. They are doing what they are paid for, to slant people's views towards their side by being inflammatory.

I am slow to take any news as fact when first presented with it. I am even more cautious of anything that comes from a political pundant.

I suspect there is much more to this story than currently presented.

This sounds to me like a case where SSS is certainly warranted! Since I wouldn't want to go to jail I'd probably bring out the next biggest gun in the arsenal. I'd be contacting my elected federal office holders. I might even send an email to the President. I'll bet you'll see action. It's an election year.

This kind of stuff needs to be nipped in the bud.

I normally don't post one right after the other, but in this case I'll make an exception. If it had been only Rush I too would have questioned it. The second link http://www.carolinajournal.com/exclusives/homemade-lunch-replaced-with-cafeteria-nuggets.html did contain details that led me to believe that this report was on the level.
