Use dog crate "parts" for screen on coop?

we have some unwanted dividers that came with some dog crates. They are 24x24 and the squares are 1x3.

They are strong enough to hold dogs in, despite one of them trying to chew his way out. He did bend the bars a bit...but never made an opening or broke them.

Would these work for window guards?

There are still little vermin that could squeeze through that sized opening without much difficulty. I'd stick with hardware cloth for coop windows.

Total newbie question but if mice/rats can get through there...will they hurt the chickens?

My friend who has been chickening for 30+ years said I will have rats. No way around it. She always does.

I never asked her if they are a problem.
