Use old newspapers free if you can get people to donate beats straw prevents red mite ! Straw tends to hide red mites and expensive to buy !

Great use of newspapers! We use papers for wood stove and you're correct folks love to give them away. I used straw once and NEVER again. Packs down earth in run and hens hated it in box
