Hi!
I am wondering what the use of Guinea Fowl is?
Besides the fact that they look awesome!
my Dad only likes me to have animals that I can profit off of......

So.....Anyone know why they are special?

If you have ticks they will eat those. They also go after any bugs in your yard. Plus their so funny to watch and the girls lay eggs which you can eat.

Yes they will go broody. They aren't the best mothers in the world but they will sit on eggs. They usually hide their nest so if you are missing a female you'll have to hunt down the nest.

As Patti mentioned, they are great tick and bug eaters and are very entertaining as well. If you're looking to make money from them, you can sell the keets (babies), along with the eggs (if you have a market to do that) and feathers for craft projects (I see them for sale on Etsy). The French Guineas (the breed we have) are also used as a meat bird and that entree is on the menu in the finest restaurants! Lots of possibilities.

Thank you!
The reason I asked, is because I love them, and my Dad only likes me to raise/have animals that I can make a profit off of.
This answered my questions!
GlennLee, when you say sell the eggs, do you mean to EAT or to HATCH?

I have seen ads locally for Guinea Fowl eggs to eat. You could also sell them to hatch. We've had neighbors who have taken their own eggs and put them in an incubator to hatch, so it would be feasible to sell eggs for hatching. I don't know the particulars on that since I've only had my flock for 3 months and we are just now getting to the egg laying stage, but I'll bet there are others out there in the BYC forum who would be able to help you with that process. Good luck and keep us posted on your endeavors!

You can sell the feathers.. not for much but you can

Don't forget, they kill snakes too. That alone makes them priceless to me :) even non venomous snakes are dangerous to most dogs and having 6 dogs I don't want to risk a thing
