Has anyone tried using chinchilla dust for their chickens to dust bathe in? My chinchilla just LOVES his dust, he knows immediatly when I put fresh dust in his bath house, sometimes hes crawling in it before I'm even done setting it up. Chinchilla dust comes in a wide variety, some are made of sand, some are made of volcanic ash, some are scented (mine smells like vanilla bean) and some have sparkles! I always wondered if my chickens would like it too, or if it was even safe for them? I assumed since it was made for chinchillas it wouldn't harm the chickens, however chinchilla dust is made specifically for a chinchillas fur, to keep out oils and smooth out the coat, aren't chickens suppose to have some oils in their feathers?

So, I was wondering if anyone has tried this. I thought about putting some in an old covered cat litter box and putting my silkie roo in it but I don't want to take the chance if it could be potentially dangerous. THANKS!
