Using latice for the run. Good climbers for color?

The first coop and run we built we made the run out of lattice on the outside and hardwire cloth on the inside. We had ivy growing all over the coop and the run. The chickens didn't seem to bother it at all. On our new coop and run we are building, I don't know if we will do the lattice this time or not. I was sort of trying to hide them the first time around. This time I am not worried about that, plus there is a lot of trees and plants around them already. Anyway, if I grow anything over their run this time, it will be grapes.

I like the ideas using nontoxic annual vines. Personally I have spent so much time and sweat waging war on the perennial ones I just can't imagine voluntarily planting them. Honeysuckle and trumpet vine top the bad actor list IMO, with English ivy not far behind. The real baddies propagate by runner as well as seed and can tunnel under or through mowed lawn away from your original planting.

My mom has a nice perennial hydrangea vine that seems pretty tame, and it looks lovely. Make sure you keep the area around the outside clear enough you can look out for new digging by predators.

If you do a search for vining plants here, you can find a thread on this I started awhile back...I got a lot of good suggestions on that thread.
