We are starting the build of our Coop/Run this week and I need to decide on what to use for the run floor. I've been letting the ladies out to roam my garden/yard everyday and they LOVE my compost pile. Every spring I have several yards of compost delivered from our city's organic composting site. Since my girls love it so much I'm considering putting a few inches down on top of the dirt that will be their run. Good or bad idea?

Welcome to BYC.

The chicken run would be a great place for the further processing of any compost that is too coarse for immediate garden use.

I'd be more inclined to get the uncomposted wood chippings and let the chickens turn that into compost for you -- absorbing the odor and neutralizing the poop -- than to use finished compost in the run, but if you have it to spare there's no downside to giving them finished compost that I can think of.

They'll love the bugs and worms. :)
