Using paper based bedding for chicks

I've beaten that one to death.... the last year... Good old compressed alfalfa seems to be the best.

Pee pads? They poke at it. Pine shaves.. they eat it then get backed up and do that weird moonwalk backup thingy to drop deuce... Paper towels... they use it for poop laced origami schemes ...

good old straw smells ok, acts as a deodorant and absorbs magically... always puffy and warmish, covers the dirty ground too, so here's go the guilt part.

It will be fine after the first 3 to 4 days or so. I have also used that same stuff in my nesting boxes. You are right, that stuff is mighty expensive! Best to use it and not waste it! Good luck with your new chicks!!!!

im just going to use it until its gone then go back to pine shavings. I can get 4 cubic feet of shavings for $4 and a big bag of the other paper based stuff for $30, and its half the size

It’s crazy how expensive it is. I bought the rainbow colored kind for about 30$ for my son’s hedgehog. Ended up not using it once it was litter trained.
It made my nesting boxes look pretty!!!! At least until my hens scratched and mixed it into the shavings and hay! Definitely not worth the money.

I have 3 or 4 "bales" of it due to Amazon repeatedly refusing to cancel my "Auto-Delivery" each month after I no longer was using it for Guinea Pigs anymore. Haha. So I am also in the position of "I have it, so why not use it".
