Hi, a few weeks ago there was a post for coop of the week and they used sand on the coop floor and nest boxes, I asked what sand they used but did not see the answer now I don't know how to go back to previous post. Does anyone else use sand? is it better than chippings if so what sand should you use. The reason I would like to switch to sand is because I get so much waste and disposing of it is a pain. I thought with sand you could use a garden sieve to remove the droppings hence less waste. I imagine it reduces the odour as well? then I could compost, but at the moment I have far to much waste to compost as very little room left in my garden.

thank you in advance.

They say river sand is the best but I've read that a lot of people can't find the stuff and just go with an all purpose sand from Lowes or Home Depot. Either I guess will do. I like the river sand because it has really small pebbles in it so you don't have to provide grit.
