Using Silkies for Incubation

Very nice. I read once in an article that endangered species breeders are using silkies to hatch Whooping Crane eggs as well as the eggs of other endangered birds.

If those folks have more faith in Silkies than in incubators, I feel like I probably should too.

Eggs from those species are incredibly valuable, so you know they have great faith in their Silkies.

THE MOST MY SILKIE EVER SAT ON 9 HEAVY BREED EGGS. SHE WAS SO FLAT TO COVER THEM I WISH I TOOK A PICTURE. I READ IN ONE OF MY CHICK MAGS THAT A CHICKEN COMMUNICATES WITH HER CHICKS INSIDE THE EGG AND BY THE SOUND THEY MAKE SHE CAN TELL THE GROWTH PROGRESS OF EACH EGG. SHE WILL PUSH THEM MORE TO THE OUTSIDE OR ROTATE THEM MORE IN THE CENTER OF THE NEST TO GET WARM AND CATCH UP WITH THE REST SO THEY DONT HATCH TOO FAR APART FROM EACH OTHER.

One of my girls incubated 11 of her own eggs and she is very much smaller then some.
