Hi, I am a newbie flockster, so I need advise, please!
I have 12 , 3 months old chicks in the coop. The coop has a run with a dirt floor. I started using lots new clipped grass as well as weeds from my garden in hope the chicks will "compost" it . I periodically add more stuff every other day or so. My question is - do you think it is a good idea or I am doing something wrong, and should just put there wood shavings or something else?
Thanks for ANY advise or comment!

Should be OK if you don't use any chemicals on your lawn and don't pile them so deep that they can't dry out pretty quick.

Wet grass clippings don't take long to grow mold. It would probably be better to spread them out to dry for a few days before adding them to the coop unless the chicks can keep them stirred up enough to prevent molding.

Thank you all for your help!
Heidisgran, I did not know they are chickens already, I tought they become chickens a bit later? That's surprising. Interesting when chick becomes chickens exactly?
(They are still "babies for me)))
