Utah!

Hi All,
My girls are doing well, but with winter not far away, and while temps are nice for me to do any coop work I need, I was wondering what I might need to do to be ready for the colder weather ahead. The coop will be double walled with in the next week (2 pieces of ply wood to go on last inside wall). I have added a light on multi time timer so that they will have minimum of 12 hours light each day. Their watering system is a nipple tank system with pipe heat tape wrapped around it. That should keep water from freezing and the with the main tank inside the coop give off some heat. The heat tape in on a therm cube for 32 on and 40 off range. I will be adding an inside feeder, as now they only have one in the run.
Also my girls are let into the yard daily.Should I allow them the yard once the snow flies.

I have quite a few sizzles that will be hatching next week if you want one to replace her.
Oh you are soooo sweet!!! What is a sizzle?
I would LOVE to see pics also:)
I'm not sure if my hubby will let me replace it cause I was just going to keep one of the blue silkies.....now that there is only one left (not very blue) I don't have to give any away.
But I might still want one:)!!!
I PROMISE to take pics of my babies after my human baby is off to kindergarten:)

UtahChickenDad, I would definitely allow them to play around in the yard once the snow flies. I need to figure out how I'm going to keep their water from freezing this winter. This is my first winter with the nipple system, so I'll have to figure it out. I"m annoyed that I'll have to do it x2 since I am thinking I may need to keep my two flocks segregated for a couple more months.

K so here are my baby silkies
two white
one blue

one black

Then here is my blue Orpington Sky

My blue Amerucana Violet

My blue Splash Marans One is named storm with the feathered feet:)

Here they all are (not my silkies) They were camera shy!!! Didn't want to look at me:)

!! Such sweet babies! You're going to enjoy watching them grow. And when they get big, you'll have a hard time believing that they were so small once upon a time

Your little Violet looks like she's an Easter Egger, instead of a pure Ameraucana, but it really doesn't matter. They're both a ton of fun to have, and she looks like she'll be a pretty girl growing up. That first Silkie is so so cute, too.

UtahCD - I let my girls roam around in the snow. Some of them choose to stay in the coop unless they want to come out and eat, but others don't mind the cold and wet at all. So long as they have somewhere to retreat and get out of the weather, they're usually fine. At least, in my experience. I haven't had any breeds that are super sensitive to the cold.

Sizzles are a cross between a frizzle and a silkie. They are very close to being accepted by the american poultry assn. They come in three types frizzle silkie and smooth coat. They are very pretty. I have to leave on Wed and the eggs are due to hatch on Friday so my house sitter will be hatching them for me. Dar it. These eggs were gifts so I could not choose the timing

Thanks;) I think they are pretty cute!!
So my Violet better be a true ameraucana!!! I paid $18 for her off of my pet chicken! They said that they were pure breads and not EE......how can you tell if they are or not?
