Utah!

its the like the cookie tin but with out the cookie tin. ( i didn't have a tin) I made 16"x 16" square out of 2 x 4's. i made a circle out of 6' rolled tin the same size as the bottom of the water tower. Its the 5 gallon double wall water tower you can buy at cal ranch. I removed the dirt from inside the frame deep enough for the round tin. I used a drop light for the heat source and just buried the cord and left the socket above dirt level in the middle of the tin circle. i lined the bottom of the circle with tin foil and just set the bulb on top of the foil. i back filled between the tin and the 2 x 4 frame with dirt and packed it down. The water tower sits on top of this nice and level and is about 4-1/2' inches off of the ground. (This is on the ground in the run and not in the coop, i like fried chicken but not my pets). I works really good and i didn't have any frozen water last winter. I tried the water nipples but my chickens hate them and I'm not going to force them to use them.

Sundance, that is an interesting phone call. I'm curious what he's taking pictures of chicks for. You'll find out, won't you? Are you going to let him pick which chicks he takes? I think the price you asked is good.

5 Babies out so far! Two left to go...believe it or not..so far they all look like girls but one! The Welsummers can be sexed by looking at their V marks on the head..usually works. Along with, more eye liner on the girls too...of course!

Busy busy peeps on here!!

Cynthia, oh some Welsummer chicks... I would take one of those in the spring, too if you have any left over=) haha

Getting chilly out!! Been working madly in the yard and at my mom's place, so I'll be in and out until the snow flies, because even after the yard stuff is done, we still need to can the tomatoes we have been freezing.... sheesh!! And then it will be time to get ready for Christmas, this time of year seems to fly right by, that's for sure!!

Welcome to all the new people and congrats on all the new eggs!!! Thinking my bantam cochins should start laying any day now, too!!

Congrats on all the babies, Cynthia! I can't wait to see pictures. That's a breed that I'll have to own at some point. I suspect my Shirley is a welsummer cross.

Sigh.......I'm sorry, but someone told me of a site you could go to to order some Denegard. Could someone please direct me to that, again? I tried looking back through the pages to find it and couldn't.

Cynthia congrats on the babies

Those Welsummers are so cute.

Mimi, it's hard to say what the history of that new rooster is without knowing where he came from or that. There's a chance he could be for fighting, yes, but that might not be the case, either. Can you see any kind of spurs on his legs? It makes me wonder how old he is.

I have one chicken with what I thought was a cough. I have given her Denegard and Tylan. Nothing worked and no other chickens have gotten the cough. Sounds more like a hicup. Can chickens just have a normal sound that is wierd. She is eating drinking peeing and pooping. No weight loss Any one have any ideas?

I have some quail and chuckers that are being raised with the chickens. Their coop was out on the grass and we would let them out daily they always come back at night even the quail and chuckers. We moved the coop into cluckingham palace. Yesterday for the first time I opened all the coop doors and let all the chicks out of the coops that we have moved into the palace and opened the palace doors wide. They were all having a good time. I went out last night a 10 pm. No quail or chuckers. I told my hubby they must have figured they are wild and decided to sleep outside. They were in the yard today and I opened the coop up. They ran in and started eating. Then they were outside again playing in the yard with the chicks. Tonight when I went out to close the big doors on the palace the quail were back in the chick coop with the older chicks. I guess they decided that the woodpile wasn't nearly as comfy as Cluckingham palace. I have had two pullets who have refused to sleep in the coops. Einstein the polish likes to sleep on the fence. I go out everynight and put him in the palace. My slw likes to sleep on the patio picnic table. I also round her up everynight. I was late last night getting them and it was really cold her last night. Tonight everyone was inside on their own. No fence or patio. Guess they didn't like the cold.
