Utah!

Got pictures of my NN today. I think she is quite a nice looking bird. I like having the extra tuff in front of her neck, like I do the showgirls.

She got quite red as I handled her.

If she lays an egg as big as what she came from, and lays several times a week, I think
I will have more of these in the future. I am thinking for my special breeds now for laying
and looks..the Swedish Flower, and the NN's. This bird is so laid back, calm, easy going!
I like those kind of birds. :)

Well I went ahead and set my eggs at 7:30...they looked pretty good, and I could hardly stand watching them just sit there lol! So we are hoping for a Dec 19th or earlier hatch. Cynthia, thanks for the advice on the little eggs! I have them in there now standing up, no turning for a day or two, per the seller on shipped eggs. Will start turning Friday. And will keep the temps at the lower end. They are in my still air so that will help, the small eggs will be down low

Sphinx, I am sure you could sell chicks on KSL as straight run, "Christmas Chicks"! You should join in. How cute to have babies on Christmas, right? Are your Polish mating yet? Boy now that I have these in I am really wanting to just hatch everything in sight and get all my spring chicks bought now lol! I fell off the wagon, hard.

It sure will be a pain in the butt in Feb though when they are getting big and need to be transitioned out to the coop from the garage. Then I remembered I have those chicks ordered for march 4...So I will be doing this for awhile, again, I suppose haha! Maybe I can get all my babies by then at least and be done with it. Famous last words.
Hattie, Crossing fingers and toes for you. the Polish babies are adorable.

Lisa, reread my post to you! Oh dear, hope I didn't come across as this big know it all! And to someone that already has a pretty good hatch rate of her own under her belt. I was just reminiscing the hard times and easy times with Silkie/showgirl eggs! Bet you have a pretty good hatch. Hope you get a pretty white one with a nice big bowtie. :))
Sounds like a few others are getting the itch to hatch. Let's see, aunti and you are already hatching..anyone else? How about Sasha? Wonder when she will try the new bator out. Need to talk Dalooras into hatching anyway, she can have chicks ~ in the garage, instead of the house? lol..

Lots of turkey talk going on, and funny I came across this today on another site. Too cute..I think someone should make one of these and try it out.

Oh my gosh, Cynthia. I literally giggled out loud when I saw this. I've wondered about tethering a team of turkeys before! It's nice to see that I'm not the only turkey weirdo

And so far as all the turkey talk goes, I blame my BF. He's the one that got me into chickens, and he also got me into turkeys. When his two bronze poults were killed by the neighbor's dogs, I got the two white ones I have now to raise for him, but in the safety of our back yard. They're just something else.

Birdguy, sweet! Do you need any more birds for your Ameraucana pen? I have a purebred black cockerel that I need to re-home. He's actually a pretty well-behaved boy, most of the time. If you're interested in him, I'd be happy to bring him to Chickenstock and trade him to you. He's about 8 months old, right now. If I'm right, Cynthia hatched him from some eggs that came from Cowgirl.

Cynthia, love your NN! You're sure it's a girl, right?

I love how she kind of has the white mask on her face. I saw the white NN that Sundance has at her house the other day. She had such a sweet face. I have decided that I really like the white NN's.

I can still remember both my mom's and my reaction when we first saw NN chicks at IFA this spring:

Mom: "Eww."
Me: "Oooh! Baby toupees!" <3

Lisa December 7th is hatch day.

I just got me some SQ bantam Polish to hatch again. I figured as long as I have little chicks I might as well have all that I want. :) Now if I could just get my bantam Ameraucana's!
If you have extra baby bantam polish I'd be happy to buy them from you.

Quote: If it was a hen I would definitely be interested... I definitely don't need any more roosters... I had a really hard time deciding who to keep for next years breeding but finally whittled it down to 5 roosters plus the 3 extra icelandics that were too young to do anything with... Thanks for thinking of me though!!

I need to get either some maran eggs or a few chicks next spring... Don't really care about color or perfection, just want a few more dark eggs everyday in the layer pen!! Maybe Michelle will have some culls she can't find a home for.. LOL I'm thinking she needs a pair of pencilled palms to really offset those midget whites too!!!

My solar panel came today!! I got a 15 watt panel off of Amazon on Black Friday.. I got some LED lights and a timer off ebay... all I need is a battery and get everything installed and I will have lights in the barn!!! I'm hoping to jumpstart the turkeys laying about a month earlier than last year... a little more light will help the chickens too... not getting very many eggs the last week or two..
