Utah!

Ugh, I just lost my post :( phone glitch.

Anyways I was going to say (and still am)

Ace I love your chicken pillow! Do you have a bag packed and ready to go? You'll sleep better if you do. I know I did anyway.

Cynthia, I've been wanting a BCM since March. :( but alas I should pass on them. I have 2 cuckoo marans that I should wait on to see if they satisfy my dark egg needs lol.

Desert I would like the 2 pullets. I need to talk to Brian first though. I bet my husband would love the roo because if how stunning they are but my little mutt roo is so goo with his girls I don't want to trade him out just yet (he got frost bite on his toes and thus lost some toenails and doesnt pull out feathers or scratch them he also is a great look out announces my presence when Im still a long ways away). He is just a year old this summer. He is an ugly cuss though. But I digress, I would like the 2 older pullets.

Any reccomendations on where to get cheap coop materials? I would like to do a grow out pen. I think.i also need to increase the size of my coop because its probably too small for the # of chickens I have now. They seem to be getting along just fine for now but I want to close it in for the winter. It is open on one side for now. Very ghetto but it works. its made out of old turkey coop materials. Here's a picture of it. Don't judge me :p

You should see my girl build chicken coop out of wooden shipping crates. The chickens seem to love their house, so that is all that matters.

As far as materials. I needed some 2 x 4s and plywood to make my shipping crate coop, and I actually went to a construction site, and asked the workers of everything in the dumpsters was going to the dump, and if they minded if I took some 2 x 4s and plywood pieces. They were so nice, they actually jumped in and got me almost hardly cut plywood, I'm talking almost full sheets that they maybe cut a few feet off, and tons, and tons of 2 x 4s, and most were at least 5 feet long. So I got all my wood for free, and its construction grade, not the cheap cheap stuff at the store. So you could try a construction site for some free lumbar.

Anyone interested in a Silkie Roo? At least I think this little guy is a rooster. I got him from Themadchicken~Gary. Almost 13 weeks old. He is very sweet, you can just walk right over and pick him up. Hasn't started crowing or anything. I love his crazy colors. I'm going to miss him a lot. But I can't keep Roosters, so I'm going to start looking for a great home for him.

Sara, let me see if I can contact Brian about taking those pullets for you. I'd love to put them on HOLD just so that don't get sold before he gets here to pick up his.

I would never judge you on your coop or run!!! Mine aren't the cute little coops everybody else has..... mine are old oilfield mancamp trailers subdivided into sections for each breed with runs put on..... very fugly but highly usable.... and cheap. I believe if it works, it works!!

Thank you Desert, I sent him a pm this morning.

Silly, what a pretty silky. I'll have to go looking for a construction site. It's a shame to let that go to waste.

So, what's new everyone?

I'm bouncing off the walls like a 5 year old on Christmas morning!

I talked my husband into letting me just fully enclose our 16 ft by 12 ft run with wood, and turn it into a huge mega chicken coop. Its already framed for pete sakes, it just needs boards, and a roof. I can't tell you how excited I am that I will have a huge walk in chicken coop, and now I won't be worried about the cold winter with the girls, cause I could hang a million lights in there if needed! And now they will have so much space too. And I'm going to just keep my Rooster! Well I guess I should say try to keep my Rooster. hehehe.

Off for breakfast and Home Depot for the wood. I just wish I could snap my fingers and it would be done like that!

Tips for putting in the nesting boxes, like how high should I put them off the ground, and the best way to do the roosts in a large coop. And I'm just thinking of leaving the floor dirt with shavings, DE and straw, or do you think I should get pallets with floor board over it? This is under our deck, so right now even when it rains, the ground hardly gets wet now.

i have my nest boxes about a foot off the ground depending on how many shavings are in the coop, but when the shavings level is lower its more than a foot. i want my girls to have use of the space under the boxes. for roosts i find its best to get two of those 4 inch metal brackets that you screw into the side of the coop and then you just drop the 2x4 in with the 4 inch part facing up so they can rest on that and it helps them keep their toes warm in winter. and with the roost being removable its easy if you want to do some cleaning or replace it. i do a poop board too. i just have a dirt floor with shavings and i use some de. i would not board the floor up because that gives the mice a safe place to live. plus with a dirt floor you can get some composting action going on. :)

Hey...that's great room for your chickens! A lot more run than I've got. That will be great in the winter. I had to chuckle when you said that you needed to increase your size of coop..because it's too small for the # of chickens you now have. he he.... I think you have joined the club. :D
