Cynthia I did try this last winter when my Polish girl was sneezing. It is kind of like Vic's Vaporub for chickens, I tried the method of rubbing it around her nasal area...oily...did not seem to help much. THere are also directions to use a heated mist and I did not do that, it was too much work to set all that up out there. I tried floating some in the warm water for drinking too. The purpose is that it floats and gets on their nasal area when they drink, it does not dissolve into the water...you could see it bead up on the surface. Could not really tell if it was helping much, she just had a mild sneeze and I did end up putting her in a kennel in the garage and giving her denegard ...was too worried about the rest getting sick...and that worked fine.

Tellorton, if it's not too much trouble and you guys do get more pheasants (or any game bird) I'd be happy to drive down and take the feathers off your hands for you. I'd like to come and get a couple of bales of straw, anyway, if your dad still has some available.

so tell me more about your book

It's high fantasy. The gist of the story is that the main character goes to war to help his cousin protect their people. He goes through some rough stuff and turns evil for a little while, then eventually turns good again.

Happy for you Diana. Glad you have family there. And, happy that the climate is much help for you. Like Sphinx said, take care and keep track of how you are feeling..do you have a dr. in that area, or do you just go straight to the ER if something comes up? Christmas in Arizona!?

Everyone... strangest thing! I went out to check for eggs a few days ago and one of my hens that was at point of lay was dead in the box... strangest thing... Unfortunately I can't afford the $60 necropsy at USU... I've read around and some people talk about a prolapsed vent? IDK.... all i know is she was dead in the nest box... didn't show any signs of disease or anything. Go figure.

Luckily 2 out of my 3 FBCM x Leghorn mix are hens! pretty good odds. Now the trick will be keeping them alive during the winter. They have already feathered out completely at 6 weeks and are looking very healthy.

If it was a prolapsed vent, you would know it by looking at her vent area. Some of the internal lining would be very obvious there, and possibly look infected or bloody. That has been what I've seen, anyway. I'm sorry you lost a hen

I can't live in Phoenix in the summer, The heat and valley fever would most likely take me out but its a good place to recover and wait out the cold

My son won't be home at christmas they are going to venezuela so I am thinking christmas in Vegas
