Help, the illness thread says its Marek's, I'm about to throw up thinking that I might have to cull everyone outside, I only have a handful that were actually vaccinated. Please, Please tell me that her symptoms are not Marek's. And I don't even know how to cull her if I have too. It can't be Marek's. I haven't add any chickens since August, no one has been here but Gary to see them, and I haven't be around any other chickens.

What do I do. She is way alert in the crate, she is sitting here looking around, she is eating and drinking, she has clear bright eyes, she's chatting. I checked her crop, its seems fine, her vent is clean and clear. I don't know what to do.

I have read that falling over can be Marek's...but Sphinx had one falling over and had it checked out and it was something else, so keep your fingers crossed! I would try medicated chicks feed too, in case it is something else, coccidiosis maybe? Maybe PM Speckled Hills too, she knows tons about chicken illnesses!

Hey all! We seem to have found a house, with agricultural land (sorry Sphinx, hubby brought in a buddy of his before I had any say so). I am in a bit of a panic now though. It is a bit of a fixer upper, in excellent shape, but dated. So it has a huge lot (2 acres), right location, right size, right price, but wrong look. My original thought was that we would renovate before fully settling into it, but DH is saying no on that. Now I don't know if I want to move in to a house that I don't 100% like, if "someday" is when it will be fixed (we live in that house already). Maybe it is cold feet since it is looking so real now? On the other hand, I am really excited to start a full on homestead without the moody neighbors. The neighbors are great with no crowing, but I want more. I have to decide if the lot is worth the house now. Or should I find a more expensive house with a smaller lot, but is finished? I am a bit irritated because I found something that needed minimal fixing up (paint and a kitchen remodel, otherwise it is in excellent condition) and compromised a lot on what I was looking for in a house with the expectation that we would fix it up. I ramble though. I have never chosen my house and I am worried that I am choosing wrong.

Chickens are all in good health. We did a huge upgrade to our run so that we can combine all the girls together, but now it is not exactly moveable. I wonder if the new residents in our home (either rent or sell, we are set either way), will want chickens? I don't really want to get rid of my expensive girls, but it would be a year before I could grow boys to go with them. I still want to focus on Marans and Bresse as a good dual purpose breed. If everything works out with the house, I will probably invest in other livestock as well. Maybe even horses sometime in the future. See, talk like that has me ready to move regardless of house, lol.

Yay Lils that is awesome! I so want to move and get some land to a have a billion chickens, and I wants some goats too.

So miss Hokey Pokey is standing up on her own now, and eating/drinking. She just isn't standing fully up and is wobbly. I wonder if she got hurt somehow. Sheriff did the same thing in November, remember she was crawling for just a day. But is totally fine. So I wonder if she hurt herself somehow.

Okay, so I just rotated the eggs, and they are for sure wiggling. Most have rolled into each other and were touching when I went to go check on them. So now when I put them back down, they are sure wiggling. So its been a sad and exciting day all the same time. So its day 17 today. Its the Silkie eggs that are wiggling, just about all of them are wiggling I watched them for about 10 minutes after rotation, and some are wiggling enough to fully roll the egg. So with that being said, do you think I should lock them down at day 18 or wait till day 19? I'm praying really hard I don't screw this one up. Tips? Ideas? And Cynthia I think it was you that mentioned about turning the temp down a little. What should I lower it too.

Thanks everyone!

Lock down, day 18. :) I usually don't mind if the temp is 97 to 99. I don't have it up to 100. They are moving around pretty good ey? What you want to do is set them so they won't roll. Are you using the kitchen liner? I find a position where they sit still. Move them around on the liner and find a spot while rolling the egg to a point where they pretty much stay put. Make sense? Now, for the loooong wait. lol...sit on those hands once they are in lock down. Or go do something..with the kids. Or, clean house. I get a flashlight and do check them a couple of times a day once they are in lock down. Just for fun, to see if anything is going on. I try not to pay too much attention until day 20.

Lil..good luck on deciding! It's hard. You can probably see what you would do in that house already..but, is it going to get done in a timely manner? ha..us women and our wanting things done now when it comes to fixing up a home! At least that's how I was when I was young. This home we came into is going to be our last. Thank goodness, everything was done in it. Everything had been painted. The only thing was the carpet down stairs. Didn't have the money for new, so bought a huge pretty are carpet. Did the trick. Good luck. I personally would love to have that much land!

They are already on one of those mesh type kitchen liners, and even if I put them where they don't roll, I watched them for like 10 minutes and they kept rolling over, so I would put them back. And once I thought they were done wiggling, I left, but go back and most of the silkies have rolled. So nice to know that at least they are alive right now. Praying I don't screw up lock down. I'm just going to fill all 3 tubes full of water and then the sponge, nothing else this time. Praying that my gauge read right this time.

Yes, that is exactly it. We currently live in a fixer upper that is livable. I don't want to do the same when I know what the time frame is. The land, on the other hand, may be worth it.

Land means a lot...we built the house we are in, custom built just the way I wanted, thought I would be happy forever. But now, I would sooo move to a 2 acre piece of land and live in any kind of house to have the animals I want. I wish we had more land, that is the one thing you can't change about your place!

Plus, all the animal care around here takes it's toll on the nice new house lol. I already need new carpets. So it is nice to be done "freaking out" on every new scratch, spill, dent, etc. I was the meanest mom ever when we moved into the brand new house. Now that it has the overly lived in feel, haha, I can relax a little. I don't fret as much and my kids don't feel so pestered.

(I say go for it!)

Oh man! I see that the Salt Lake IFA have chicks. The ones I would love to get are the red sex links. Wish our IFA would get them early, but they probably won't until next month. Cal Ranch either.

Love me some RSL's. To rotate this come summer with the other two I have.

Lisa, I saw your ad. Your little ones are soo cute! I love the kind of cap they ended up with. :)

Saw someone wanting a GLW roo...in Heriman..spelling...sorry... thought there might be one on here?
