Utah!

Yay Karen, yes, get the broody ready, but remember, it's only day 20, the pipping could go on for another couple of days. You will probably start seeing other pips now. It's so fun when they start pipping, because you know that they are at work. Some will pip and sit, for a long time. Some may pip and zip, in no time! You just never know. Don't ... open... your bator now. Your humidity sounds fine. Just add water through the vent holes. If you think it looks dry. Have fun!

Thanks, I've been going to it like every 10 minutes hoping there are more. HeHe. I know it will probably be tomorrow before I see any chicks. But its so nice to know that I might actually have some babies. I have a few others in there that are really rocking. I'm actually leaving here for a few hours, I don't want to leave them, but oh well. Maybe when I get back I will have more pips.

Really? A thunder storm and micro winds...in Feb? I grabbed my camera and took this photo after I heard the wind kick up, then the thunder. We don't do this in Feb. :/ From my front porch.

Sorry about your chicken Karen. Good lick on the hatch. SO i decided to get rid of some of my older layers. I have a guy coming to pick up 6 hens Tuesday. So i ran to draper IFA and picked up some Dark RIR`'s.

They are all ready foraging in their bedding.

I have also decided to keep the last 2 chick's from my little rooster. I have a pullet and a roo. They are sex links. The little black one is the hen and the barred is the roo.

So, my parents' rooster has become quite chatty in the wee morning hours. Does anyone want him? He is a true gentlemen. Very calm. He fought off a neighbors loose dog (losing his tail feathers and a few battle wounds.) They don't want to give him up, but the chattiness is too much for the neighborhood they are in. Any takers? He is a SLWxGLW. So he has the silver and gold gene.

And here is one of his EE babies.

Gary your chicks are so cute, I hope I get a good handful out of this hatch. Wish they would just hurry up and all pip, just the one lonely pip all day long. No peeps out of any of them. They just need to hurry up. I don't want to wait to see their little faces anymore! My 5 year old said its taking way too long. HeHeHe!

Silly, so sorry to hear about your Pokey. At least she isn't suffering anymore. Things will get better. And I'm so glad to hear that you have a pip! That would probably be the Icelandic heritage that's making that chick come early. Icelandics are known to do that a lot. Here's hoping it pops out healthy and well!

Madchicken, cute babies! Any idea on how those Icelandic eggs are doing for your broody?

Ace, that rooster is very pretty. It's a sad day when you have to let the good ones go.

So hatch update. NO BABIES YET! I'm starting to get really impatient! So the first one that pipped yesterday is still at the same point as it was 24 hrs ago, I have a NN mix that has pipped about 12 hours ago, no change there either, and I have a Silke that Pipped about 10 hours ago, and that one is chatting up a storm, sounds more like a squeaking mouse then a chick. Then I have another Blue/Green from Red that Pipped about 4am this morning, and is actually starting to I guess what you call zip, because it has a huge hole, and its starting to crack upwards on the shell. But its in a hard spot to view, but all I see is white membrane, so I'm not sure if my humidity is too low. I put a bunch of water with the straw on the sponge this morning, and its only at 55%. I can't seem to get it up any higher, so I'm starting to get worried its too low or its just me being way too impatient!

I stil have several wigglers in there, no pips. Wish they would just all hurry up. Don't they all know that today is their birthday/hatch day. Geez…

My temp is also reading only at 56, with my little cochin eggs. I go ahead and put more water on three sponges I have in there. I don't fill my wells. Just use sponges. There is condenstation on one of the windows though, so not going to worry that the temperature only reads 56 or 57. I can tell that it's pretty damp in there. Pips! You have pips! Sounds like you will have babies by this afternoon..at least the one. And probably more by tonight. Then, it can go until tomorrow. :)

Well I don't have any moisture on either of the windows? Do you think I should add a wet paper towel or cloth in there really fast? I have another pip too. Yippee… Now I just hope they can hatch.
