Utah!

We are going down to the lake tomorrow and getting reeds to make mason bee nest. Has anyone else made them and if so are they hollow all the way through or do you cut the reed just above a knuckle?
if i remember right you cut it just above the knuckle. but you can test it to make sure. i mean its not like there is a shortage of those reeds, they are a invasive species after all. very cool of you to make mason bee nests

Sad day at the Olsen house.

My polka dot NN was dead this morning.

So fast...I noticed she was not hanging with the group yesterday but was eating and drinking.

Heck...Ace was over to my place just a few days ago and saw how healthy they all looked.

Really? Strange! They were all happy as can be!!! Are more showing signs? Or was it just the one!?

My baby didn't make it.

I could tell this morning before I headed for church that it was in trouble. Man, it was picking up food from the floor and drinking with my help last night. :( It was gone when I got back from church. It came from a bantam assorted bin. Are there bantam Polish? It was so cute. If so..I just may have to go see if I can find a healthy bantam Polish, haven't tried them yet. I know my two favorites so far, but maybe it's just because this one stole my heart right away. Big big eyes. So cute.

Doughie, I'm so sorry for the loss of your NN. That's so sad.

Cynthia, I'm sorry you lost your rescue. At least she died peacefully.

My large fowl frizzled ameraucana is looking really unfortunate. I'm not sure if she is getting plucked or if she's molting or what. She's laying eggs though. Anyway, I thought I'd post a picture so you guys could giggle at her bald head.

I'm so sorry about your Polka Dot NN, I had one too, and she just got sick all of a sudden, and didn't make it either. I was so heartbroken, and I miss her dearly. I loved her spots and wild top head feathers. Cynthia sorry about your chick. There was a Bantam Chick at Cal Ranch yesterday that I just wanted to take home too, it was so pasty that it looked like the whole half back of it was just poop. I said something to the guy there, and he said "Ma'ma, chicks usually have poop all over them, that one right there will be just fine." Seriously, idiot, but I had Ryan with me, and she says to the guy, will it will just die then. And walked off. I was like OMG little missy. I really thought about buying it, but I have 4 week old chicks, and so I don't have anywhere to put the poor thing.

So the last few days have been crazy, we had our Girl Scout Cookie Booths, and my brand new troop managed to sell 1391 cookies Fri/Sat. We ran out yesterday by 7pm and we were scheduled till 9pm. I'm in total shock that we managed to sell what I thought would take 2-3 full weeks to sell.

Bird Man...I picked a hand full of reeds today.I used a razor knife to cut them but there has to be a better way. A little electric scroll saw would work wonders. I might make a bunch of these and sale reeds full of larva in the spring with a all ready built nest. If no body buys them i guess they would be good treats for the flock.

I have OE's hatching. F1 and F2 hatching from today to Tuesday night. I had 4 around 5;00. Hopefully the mama hen does ok. This is her second hatch but the neighbor just built a giant playground 25 feet from the chicken coops. Oh ya she is sitting on a dozen.

Sad news again to Cynthia...but that baby got some tlc and love that has to make you feel good to know you were able to do that for her. I was really hoping she would make it too!

Sphinx, holy coly your frizz has mine beat by a mile. Mine molted worse than any others I have had in my flock...but the bald head on yours is hysterical. Poor baby, I can't believe she is still laying! Glad you shared that pic, you should enter it in the next molting picture contest.

I have to admit I am intrigued by this bee nest business. I have NO idea what you guys are talking about, I would love to know exactly what you are doing! Sounds exciting.

Silly, way to go on the cookie sales!

Doughie if you want another polka dot I have an extra black one with orange on the bowtie that you could sure have! I have not lost any, I hope it is just coincidence that you and Silly lost one...and not some weird genetic problem. So far so good.
