Checked this site out..looks like it was done for meat purposes back then. Going to check further. They probably didn't mind if it crowed back then.

So maybe not mentioned?

How are you doing anyway? That little buff is a sweetheart!!

Has your Wyandotte layed yet? Is the egg huge, even though she just started, if she did? :p

Does anybody want some young Chickens?

I have 7 mixed breed babies for sale. They are about 1 month old and are going to be pretty! Email me for pictures.
I also have 4 Mixed breed OLDER Chickens. about 3-4 months old. They are feathering out nicely and they are living outside sleeping on the perch in the big coop

Thank you! I keep looking and wondering if maybe she jumped into the back of my truck and flew out at some point. I just keep refusing to believe she's gone for good. I'm just being unrealistic and not grownup about it I guess.

I love my little cochin banty - so cute and just moves to the side when I collect eggs, even when broody. Buttons are so cute!

Snowburton's little silkie roo is going to come to my place in a week or so. He's such a mature young man. As I mentioned, it's wonderful to see a teen today that has the goals, ambition and maturity he does. The opposite ones that are cruel to animals are our future's nightmares. I'm glad I can help him out. He won't have to worry about his roo and can focus on the important things in his life.

Also update on my prolapsed hen. She's making great progress!

I found two large scabs in her pen and she's looking normal "back there". I'm going to go ahead and start on layena and watch until I know she can lay an egg ok.

Also, on one more side note... is anyone experiencing an unusal amount of shell-less or latex-type shells? I thought it was just my new layers (which we know is usual) but I found one in my older girls coop. I called the feed store to see if Layena had changed their format and they haven't.

I buy calcium by the 50# bag, it's mixed in with their feed and free fed so that's not the issue. No stress on them, plenty of water, sun, etc. We had unusually hot weather here then at night it drops to frost sometimes. The feedstore owner wondered if that could be it. I supplement with veggies, fruits, etc. but having 5 eggs now like this, something must be up. very strange.

My feed store wanted to know if I'd be interested in a high Omega-3 organic feed. Not at $30/bag. I go natural but according to him, FDA says organic means even the soil, seeds, whole nine yards have to be organic. Someone else here (in this area, not the forum) claims her eggs are organic but they're not. They are feed Layena - which is "natural", not organic.

I would guess true organic scratch would be double the cost and maybe IFA could order it in. Wish I lived close to somewhere I could make my own. You buy fm Lehi Mill? (you don't need to answer if you don't want).

I am also thinking about buying the big bags of flax seed. It's just a little pricey and so dang tiny I think much would go to waste unless I used it in a mash. I use it for my horses (and they don't require much) but it has to be ground o/wise it goes straight through their system.

I buy my organic feed from Leland Mills (Leland Milling Co Inc in Spanish Fork, UT 84660 - (801) 798-2090). I get scratch from them as well, but not sure if the scratch is organic. They're cheaper than anywhere else.

Glad the young BO is doing well. Our other (older Buff) has started laying again but that Wyandotte just wants to eat and hang out. I'll have to have a talk with her about contributing.

yeah i like organic and all but i am poor lol so my girls do not get organic feed. i buy layer pellets at cal-ranch because its so close and for my scratch i go to ifa and get a few bags of grain and mix them up. i did not want to buy the scratch mix pre-made because a lot of the mixes have a lot of corn and my girls will not eat that when its in the mix. i use boss, whole oats, milo, pasta, peanuts that are in shell, and whatever else i want to throw in the mix and next time i will add wheat to it too. it is much cheaper because i do not have the corn wast. i use a paddle mixer for my drill to mix it and it works well but down the line i will be getting a cement mixer so i will use that too. thank you all for the info on the organic stuff, i could not afford to feed it but a lot of people do. you guys should try feeding peanuts, i feed them in shell and the girls love to crack them open and eat them. peanuts are their favorite and its so funny to see them fight over them

Leland Mills organic is cheaper than the Cal-Ranch or IFA non-organic feed. I think I pay $14 for a 50# bag. They will also sell in bulk for even cheaper. Just bring your big metal garbage can and they'll fill it on site. They're a family owned business that has been around for a couple of generations. Super nice people.
