Utah!

And… while we were out this evening watching the birds and the pond, Gilbert, our frog made an appearance. Of course we snapped a picture of that! We have a 500 gallon pond near the back door and it is here we often sit to view the fish, birds, chickens and what ever else shows up in the yard that evening. We have had Koi, but where we freeze so hard, we just get big goldfish now and go with what works. Grandkids love the fish, chickens and Gilbert when he shows himself. Anyway just thought I would share some of our 'viewing' space and where we hang out when we have a moment or two.

My thanks to all,

RJ

RJ, nice pond set up! You should talk to Sundance, she breeds Mosquitofish in her ponds. They are native to Utah and look and are about the same size as guppies. If you put a livestock water heater in your pond it will stay open enough to raise them. You could still add gold fish in the spring since they dont eat other fish but if you add Koi they might eat the mosquitofish.I used to have a pond and a couple water feature but we all know the nursery rhyme, Little boys are made out of Snipes and snails and puppy-dog tails. That's what little boys are made of.

Hey Lisa, how is this lil one looking? I was thinking about it, and I think i'd still like to get it if you have it. Is it starting to look like a dark blue or is it looking like a true brown partridge? Do you have recent pics to show how its coloring? How old is it now? And is its comb looking more girly or more roo? Sorry for all the questions lol.

She has changed quite a bit, will get some pics tomorrow. I am becoming quite attached though (of course, when does that NOT happen?!?!) So not sure if I am wanting to sell her, let me think on it ! She is getting some pretty good fluffy boots going on.

RJ, that Rooster is just magnificent. What a great find! Some really nice picture taking. I just love that breed, they are so striking.

Hey Lisa, you want to trade some Splash Silkie eggs for some quail chicks? My white (Dandelion) should also be laying fertile eggs buy now.I get really pretty blues out of her.

Heck ya!

I have quail eggs, right now, ready to set....you could have those eggs or I could hatch out chicks for you. I just have to wait until Sunday the 27th to set quail eggs because we will be gone for a few days and I don't have a quail egg turner. I have 3 chicks left that are 4 weeks old from my last hatch, female, Coturnix Brown, and I have both Texas A&M eggs and Coturnix Brown eggs and all are finally fertile. The 4 week old female chicks are awesome because I raised them with chicken chicks and they think they are chickens, very mellow and friendly, much easier to pick up than the ones I raise alone.

Whatever you want! My Silkies and SG finally started laying over the weekend, I am going to set a batch of eggs here pretty soon! Babies from Ernie.

Worst thing just happened a few minutes ago!!! I went in to make the final turn of my eggs and start lockdown. To my surprise, tons of cheeping in the bator! I checked my calendar, and I had written down on today's date "Lockdown", but when I looked back through I was off. They are due to hatch tomorrow at Ten AM!

I hurried and sprayed the bator down and got the humidity up, but I am so worried half of them will hatch upside down. DANG@!!!@!#$$! I did a quick candle to get the air cells the right way, at least, and found one had a shadow of a beak in the air cell, so I tapped that one open because it was internally pipped right in the center, not near the shell and I did not want it to run out of air. Now wait and see, so frustrating, if it is not the temp that messes up its the crazy lady who can't count 21 days out on a calendar. Argh. I have OE's pipped, and a couple sex linked marans from my Golden cuckoo/BCM...and some frizzles. One egg from my Columbian colored EE is pipped, it would be an olive egger, I really hope that one hatches because that is my favorite chicken. Crossies!

RJ, it sounds like you've got a great rooster! Yaaaay :)

It's sure blustery tonight. I was outside late with DH watering the garden. We've had a huge wave of squash bugs this year and they killed a bunch of our plants :( Boo. I keep catching them and feeding them to the chickens. Has anyone got any good control methods for squash bugs? I put down some sevin dust today, but they don't seem to mind it.

I can understand that. Just think it over and let me know :) Her brown partridge color, and a paint are the two colors I am hoping to find to complete my lil flock and she'd be just the right age to join my younger babies :)

My Icelandic hen Flekka is gone. I'm sure tired of losing birds.

She is so beautiful! Hopefully she will return, maybe she just sneaked off your property for a bit!

I have a few babies out, all blue so far. My blue Roo has the strong genes it seems. I had a really big SBEL egg that hatched, and so this one will be an Olive Egger with some leghorn genes in there, hoping it is a girl and a good layer :D I sure hope I don't lose a bunch from turning them too long.

Iluv, I will get those pics this morning so you can decide for sure if she is the right color.
