Utah!

I don't have a clue, I found it on KSL. They'll pick up if you're close by depending on what you have. They take birds and goats. They say they are a "sanctuary" for unwanted animals and they act as "foster" parents. Seems kinda sketchy, but who knows.

I had to separate him from the girls tonight (his hormones are kicking in I guess) so he's in a little makeshift coop/dog kennel. I feel awful!!! Poor guy

We had to do that with our rooster before we rehomed him. Then all the girls would come over to the dog kennel and talk with him for a while. That is what they are doing in this picture. Both those hens got killed back in april sadly. They were some of my favorites.

This was our rooster at 13 weeks. I let him out of the kennel for a few minutes.

Someone tell me that going to IFA (or wherever my neighbor went) to buy a 3 day old Delaware to add to my brood is a bad idea. Because it is... My chicks are 5-6 weeks old (except my tiny bantam EEs). I have eight chicks already! I don't need another chick! I just don't! But I want one so bad...

Please, I need as many people as possible to tell me it's the worst idea ever so I can resist the Delawares.

Don't put all your eggs in one years basket. You will have other years to try out new breeds. Yours would be so much bigger so you would need to get 2, then you have 10 hens that all ease up on laying at the same time. Next year you can get them.

Words of wisdom.

My rooster has his collar on, it's working like a charm! And, he's getting about business. Only, I just watched him get a pullet..point of lay. What's he thinking? Never mind. I think I know.
I am pretty sure he has gotten my RSL. He may be getting too busy. Now to think where I can put him so the ladies can have a time out when he really goes after them all. All the time. :/ He sure is pretty. Nice looking EE. Has the blue splash in his neck and tail, red and gold on the body and chest.

Thank you... I shall continue to resist... But also continue to be envious of my neighbor's Delaware. I guess that makes us even. His wife really likes my frizzle.

Ha ha ha ha ha Chicken keepers crack me up. My husband would be like, "You're jealous of chickens. You are jealous of chickens?" He is my voice of reason... And sometimes annoyance at my hobby (read: obsession). Some people get the chicken appeal, some don't. Ha ha He loves it in his own way, though. He can't handle store bought eggs any more. :)

Hi all! It's been a while! glad to see everyone's flocks are thriving! Red, how did your hatch turn out? How is your garden coming along?
My flock is just-a-growing. My SS are as lovely and sweet as ever. I love them more and more everyday! Also, my cuckoo marans is now broody, and man, is she a mean broody!!!!! We'll see if she snaps out of it.

These rainy weeks have been killing me because of all the projects I've wanted to get done! Since the rain stopped, I was able to build and plant my herb arbor:

And I am starting on. 6' by 8' coop for my aunt. Here is some of the framing for the front section:

I hope all my chicken friends are enjoying this change of weather as much as I am!

Our household has been known to suffer intense boughts of chicken envy for various reasons. The younger of us want them for pets and the older of us want the eggs.... And the dogs for play (why do we deny them such feathery, fluffy toys?).

And @acemario I wish I were so handy. I'm trying but I'm always afraid I'll ruin something that isn't mine in the process. That and I don't have a space to tinker in... I had a list of things to do somewhere... I don't think it's coming along very well.

I've built five coops, and each was completely different. I would just remind you to build for your specific needs, and don't forget to think of the future as well. If you are connecting the coops but leaving a fence between, this will work great for integration, but not so much for sickness isolation, for example. If you are going to split your flock for breeding, a split coop is best, if not, perhaps a combined is better. Sorry this isn't much help, but just be creative and build for the future!
