Wow, is it June already??

Let's throw out some Friday or Saturday dates in June and July. (Much of my schedule is already packed, but let's see what we can do!)

When is Tour de coops again?

Marty

This is the third time I've tried to type in a reply - don't know if it's my computer or BYC. So if there are three messages from me, I apologize!

I can't attend a chickenstock this weekend, or the 4th of July weekend - but other than that, I'm pretty flexible.

Tour de Coops is Saturday, June 27th. Pick up the maps ($5) from Wasatch Community Garden's Grateful Tomato Garden (800 S 600 E) from 9:00 to 10:30, coops are open from 10:00 to 2:00. Anyone interested in meeting at a specific time so we can actually meet face to face (if we don't have the chicken stock before the Tour de Coops)? I'm planning on hitting Nielsen's Frozen Custard as some point that day, if anyone wants to join me - or has a better suggestion.

Also, Wasatch Community Garden's Urban Chicken class is June 24th, also at the Grateful Tomato Garden, 7:00 - 8:30. You need to reserve a spot to attend. I reserved mine a while ago, not sure if they still have spots available. http://www.wasatchgardens.org/workshops.html is the page with the info on both events. I hope I linked that properly.

kimbobim

OK, I'm not sure how to get the link to work - that IS the correct site address for the Wasatch Community Gardens events & workshops page, but clicking on it doesn't go anywhere. What am I doing wrong? I guess you can copy and paste the address into your browser. - thanks

Hey pacsman, one of my red sex links laid her first egg today. It was smaller than full size and it broke cause we didn't have the nest boxes padded yet. We just opened them (had them closed so the girls wouldn't sleep in them) and she just went right in. Apparently had it just a little while later. She's a little early....17 weeks. Time for layer mash and oyster shell.

I know you weren't really posting to me - but yfchoice - congratulations!

No way!

I thought I had another month before I had to start worrying about eggs... hmm...

I've got a couple that are larger (and have bigger combs/waddles than the others...) was the one that laid bigger or smaller than the rest?

She was actually the smallest of the four. I thought we had about a month too....hence the nest boxes not being ready for occupancy. They are now.

hen-thusiast, I only pointed out pacsman cause we both got our sex links and barred rocks from the same lady on the same day, probably within an hour or so of each other. So we have sisters. I'm glad everyone reads these posts. We'll know each other by the time we meet.

As for meeting...I'm for kimbobin's idea of meeting someplace on the 27th of June, either before, during or after the Tour de Coups.

What percentage of food are you feeding? I got a ton of free wheat/brown rice/millet/etc from freecycle.

Problem is, I think it's dropped my protein percentage down too much. They do get bugs and stuff though...

I like the 27th for chicken stock. After the tour might be better for us.

Marty

I'd be able to do the 27th after the Tour de Coups.

yfchoice - no worries, I remembered that you got chicks from the same place around the same exact time.

Congratulation yfcoice!

My chics are 17 week also.

I was thinking it is almost time to feed them egglayer.

I really hate to sound domb, but what is chicken stock other then

soup?

hehehe... I guess no one here knows because we're all so new. It's just a get together of chicken folks talking about chicken stuff. I guess in other parts of the country where back yard chickens are more established, it's almost carnival like, with rides for the kids, food stands, chicken contests, etc. etc.

We're starting out small

The Tour de Coops ends at 2pm. shall we start at 3pm, or 4pm?
Anyone?

Thank you Marty, for clearing that up.

I have never done a tour do coop. I guss I had better get a map.

If I go ,are we going to try to meet up or what?

Gail
