Utah!

I got to meet LadyIsadora and her hubby tonight. We did our darnedest to get rid of the bumblefoot on her sweet little duck. Hope it helps! And it was good to meet you, Isadora

I hope it worked too! That stinking ailment is such a buggar, very nice of you to help. I had my husband try the surgery a couple times because I am too timid and squeamish. I scared him the entire time gasping and groaning.

@sidewing, here is my SLW. How close is she to SOP? She is a hatchery stock, but to me, she looks more stunning than other SLWs posted on the SLW thread. You are now our local SLW expert!!!!

It was great to meet you RedIII! You are such a sweet soul. Thank you so much for being willing to come over & help. It was a learning experience for sure. Im not used to asking for help. I appreciate your time, and willingness to reach out.
She seems pretty good today. She has laid an egg both days, so the stress hasn't seemed to affect her production. That is a good sign I think. I was able to keep them all out of the pond yesterday but today they jumped the fences to get in. Ill have to go change her wet bandage in a minute.

Did you have any bantams using the dog bowl? I was looking at how tall it was and I'm sure my full sized girls would have no problem, not sure about the bantam broodies and their 9 week old chicks. Of course they'll be bigger by the time it actually freezes (I hope).

I figured I'd try an experiment. The dog bowl I picked up from IFA is the same height as one of those "gallon" pails of cheap ice cream from walmart, so I filled one up with water and stuck it in the coop. I put a brick next to it for the chicks to get up on if needed. I'll see if they drink out of it.

Glad things worked out!
I had young chicks drinking from it (couple months old) they would hop up onto the side, and then take a drink. I haven't had a problem (that I'm aware of) of falling in.

Oh good! I've been wondering how she was doing. I told my DH about what a sweet girl she was, too. I need more ducks after seeing Elvira, haha!

I will do my best though. I do have some good examples to work from thanks to Foley. Your SLW in the front there has the nicest lacing I have seen in hatchery stock for sure. Their hocks and feet are yellow, and they are getting nice and round. How old are they? SLW take 18 months to fully mature. You also have lacing on the leg feathers and my hatchery stock didn't even have that.

I can't tell on the picture angle, but you also want to watch for a pinched tail. When viewing the tail from behind, it should resemble the shape of a tee pee. Wide and open at the base with a gentle taper to the top. When viewed in profile, the tail should not be overly rounded at the top like the "bunny tail" on a cochin.

Turns out my roosters still aren't getting it done. I think that has something to do with my old girls not submitting to them. I watched my RR hen and my welsummer roo going at it this morning. I don't think he was taking no for an answer and she took exception to it. I tried to hatch some of these girls eggs, and only had 3 that appeared to be viable, with one hatching. So now I have a single back yard mix chick. I have it on KSL for $3, as I don't want to brood it by itself, but if anyone on this thread wants it, I'll give it to them. Just message me and let me know. I really don't know what breed it is, as I just have a big mixed flock all running together right now. But it is LF and all of my breeds are good producers, so this one should be as well.

Sold it. I was surprised how quickly I was able to this time of year.

Well, I guess we are all in trouble!!! Thanks for the advice. I only have the one hen, and her lacing to me seems gorgeous. She is right around that 18 month mark, and recently got over a bad molt.

I'll try to get some more pics. Are the SLW threaders active/willing to critique?
