Utah!

Thanks for the help, i was a little confused on the turning them part. i makes more sence to just tilt the egg carton. duhh. Straight run is about 50% hen/rooster right.?

I stopped getting my email alerts for some reason....I thought it was awfully quiet on here so I logged on to post.....well there ya'all are!

Cynthia-LOVE that old ad. So fun! I would love to see more pics like that from you and Sasha if you want to put them on.

Birdguy---that goat is adorable! I love the calico-ey colors.....thanks for sharing! I love that you are on our thread. Idaho thread moves kind of slow, but I like to lurk on there :)

Sasha---I candled a few of your eggs last night and I can see some developing :celebrate
some yes, some no, but it is likely quite early so I will check back in a few days. I usually wait til 7 but I was bored last night and thought why not! There were a couple wonky air cells but from what I have seen chicks hatch from crazy air cells all the time....but I was so glad to see some starting to develop.! Yay!

I REALLY am wanting to get another batch of eggs from pawtraitart. Her website is www.qcupoultry.com .......you guys should check her chickens out! Anybody interested in FBCM chicks, Blue orps, or Wheaten Ameraucanas besides Sasha? I am in love with her chickens :) I wish I lived closer I would just go to her place to get the chicks, the hatching thing is ok but instant gratification would be more my thing....I am thinking as mine get older and move on I might just keep bringing in some from hers. And then Polish :) BUT I do not have room for a whole carton more! But some.....lol

Lisa...you aren't supposed to share links like that when there are hatching addicts on the site!!

If they are shipped it also helps to let them sit a day or two in the bator upright before turning (right at the beginning) to let the air cells settle down, they are really too young at that stage to worry about the embryos sticking.....page 2 on this thread has some input on that....
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/629994/not-turning-shipped-eggs-for-the-first-three-days-why/10

After reading that info I do let mine sit in cartons upright in the bator the first day or two before turning, three if the air cells look pretty funky. There is lots of debate about it, but that is my preference....I have read some people that wait 5-7 days and have had 100 percent hatches on shipped eggs so it must not hurt to go 2-3 days.

Lisa, that's so exciting! I've already talked to you this morning, but I'll post here so everyone can know, too... :) I couldn't help myself, and candled my 8 Bantam Wyandotte eggs this morning. Of the 8, 5 definitely have veins! Yay!!! (My little smiley application isn't working for some reason) 2 of the other eggs don't look fertile, but I'll give them until day 7 and check again. Ya never know. the last egg didn't have veins that I could see, but didn't look infertile. So we'll see what happens. I'm so stinking excited!

They are in Paul Idaho. I LOVE her assortment...they are the exact kinds I like.....and have heard great things about her from the Idaho people. I got the $35 assortment without the olives this time....plus $10 shipping. I would like to get the $25 with the olives....the Blue orps I am not as interested in but she has show quality birds so I think those should sell pretty fast as popular as orps are around here. Chicks just do not sell up here in the north like they do in your area though.
