Utah!

No Baby Goats yet...Thought she was in labor yesterday, but she was just playing with me...I have another due tomorrow...we will see what happens.
The chick is sleeping contently in the cage in the kitchen...So I guess we will see what happens today. If she wasn't so sweet, My daughter is loving on her.

Haven't heard from Kirk yet.  I would imagine that he is probably doing his early morning farm chores right now.  He better call.  The chicks that hatched from the first batch are going to be full grown by the time he gets here!

I've been on here long enough for this morning, so will just ask when your lock down is for your bantams.  Are we close with those? That would be fun..next Tues. not tomorrow..for lock down on my eggs in the turner.  So baby Silkies, I'm excited.  They are just so cute, and I hope they are as sweet as the one I have.

Looks like tomorrow at 10 am :) Unless Sasha wants to wait after reading more input on here. I am up for whatever she wants. I am thinking a teensy bit early would not hurt. They are looking pretty full inside those eggs. So expect baby pics on Fri or Sat night after we get back from chickenstock....hopefully!
They are bantam crele--I have never seen those, but I think she said they were barred bantams. Wonder if they will be black with the white spot on their heads like the BR?

I love your silkie. I am afraid You are making me get the silkie bug. I will have to save that for next spring, I have chickens coming out of my ears :)

Glad baby speckles is happy. Now about that mama goat? She is not so happy I am sure. Can you give goats mineral oil? Sure works on humans lol! She better have those babies today, suppose to rain and be yucky tonight and tomorrow. Would be lots easier to do it in the nice sunshine.

She is totally ruining my plans. LOL She was supposed to kid and be out of the kidding stall so the next one could use it. Now I will have 2 and they can't be together. I will have some scrambling to do if they kid at the same time. Darn goats.

Oh ya, I think these eggs of Sasha's will be autosexed too, that would be nice! Crele is autosexed from what I understand...comes from Red breasted bred to barred. But I have no idea which will be which. Sasha do you know?

Sphinx, I saw that ad and thought it was weird, too. No breed listed, hardly any description, and a high dollar amount for a rooster. Of course, it might be that the seller doesn't speak very good English, so he has a limited vocab. Who knows? And just because cock fighting is illegal doesn't mean people don't ever do it, sorry to say

Blu, I hope that splash can settle in okay. She can be a bit flighty, but I'm glad to hear that she hopped right up on your shoulder for you. That's excellent. She got along alright with most of my teens, though now and then I'd hear a squawk when someone stepped on her (they do that to each other a lot) She loved palling around with my GLW and Welsummer. She's a booger to catch outside, but a cute little thing, nonetheless.

And if there's a storm coming in soon, maybe that will help your goat to kid? It seems like the barometric pressure can influence when women have their babies, so why not goats, right?

Brad, I know what you mean about that Pencil laying later. It's true. They are bred different,..the right way, and they will lay later than the normal 20 weeks or so. That's ok by me, they lay longer too. :)

Shinx..that just ticks me off to even think about them selling fighting roos right under everyones noses! Yes, it's illegal in our country. So is Pitt Bull dog fighting. Or any other kind of animal abuse like that. Just ticks me off. hmm, I think I'll make a phone call and ask some questions. Oh, that is a pretty rooster. What breed is that? Is it a nice rooster..having any problems with it around other roosters? I just wondered how it would do around another rooster..don't want any fighting going on. Oh boy, I am so doing this. I'll get back with you.

Ok, so I called.

It was a hispanic man. His english wasn't too good, but he understood that I was asking what kind of rooster it was. I told him how beautiful it was. He said it was a brown red..I asked, is this a game bird? Then I asked if it got along with a flock, and other roosters. Then the line went dead. I know the sound of the line going dead because of it just dieing, or being hung up..it died. My phone rings in a few mins. It was a younger hispanic boy. He said sorry, his phone died. I asked him the same questions I asked the older guy. He said the same thing..so I ask about him being around the flock, and how he is, and if he is around other roosters and how he is with him. The boy told me exactly what I wanted to hear. He is good with the flock, and good around the other roosters..I even told him that I ask about that because some roosters fight. He says, no, he gets along with the others. I ask, do you just have gamebird, or do you have different birds in your flock? He says, different, that he has Ameraucanas. Oh, I say..I have those too. That would be interesting.. well thank you for calling back and helping your friend with the translation. I will think about it.

I think they just want to sell a rooster..for 60 bucks!!! But, I think he will sell it to anyone, and not ask questions if they don't want to know about the rooster. :(

Kirk called...said he won't make it today, but tomorrow for sure. He lost both a mom and a baby calf today. He was pretty upset because it was one of his favorites too. He said he was trying to help, but the head got stuck and there was just no helping this little one out. They both died. How sad. He says, yes, that's one thing about having a farm...sad things happen. I know that much just from having my chickens. I've always said I would have loved the farm life, wonder if I could really do that.
