HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CINDY!!!

I hope you have a great birthday! I have 2 aunts with the same birthday as you.

For your birthday, I can give you some good news! The eggs you gave me from your friend's bantams...I candled last night and all of them are fertile except 1! :) I left it in the bator and will check it again in a few days, because it was just day 3, but that is a great fertility rate. :) So set those eggs you have and get to hatching!

Shinx, that little one only needed the tape for one day. Took care of it. I have talked with the guy that ended up with it..I had told him that I had taped it, and it looked good, and sure enough, he said you couldn't tell anything was different.
Splayed leg is an easy fix if done right away. It's the hips that are a worry..usually not easily fixed, or fixed at all.

Yep, Brad...pretty strong in staying with just so many chickens...now what I want to know is....how many other birds do you have? hmmm?

it is hard but i keep it down to 12 :) i do parrot rescue and did have 5 parrots but lost 2 in 7 days, i told you about the congo that had a seizure and died, well 7 days later i lost my senegal due to kidney failure from drinking magna water for 18 years (parrots have to have bottled water) so now i am down to 3 parrots but if the right rescue comes along you can bet i will give in and take it in lol. if anyone thinks chickens are much work you should see what parrots take lol.

Heh, Brad only has self control because we haven't corrupted him yet, muahahaha *rubs hands together gleefully*

Brad, what other parrots do you have? They are such beautiful creatures. I love just about anything with wings. If I had the time and means to care for a parrot, I would surely have one by now. Not only is their intelligence fun to see, but I like to pick up their feathers and occasionally use them for jewelry - or just to keep for myself, hehe.

Lisa, I just got the word from my boyfriend this morning. That Marans has at least three chicks! She's keeping them hidden in some tall grass.......exactly where I thought she was, that stinker.............My EE roo is head over heels for the Marans, so he gets um, quite lovey whenever she's in sight. Unfortunately, he has no regard for the chicks underfoot, and we think that one that we found got trampled by him

He is THIS CLOSE to getting fired! Okay, so he doesn't rip feathers out of my hens, and he'll sometimes show them where food is. But ya know what? That's about as much good as I can say for him right now, other than he's good looking. I've got other roosters in training, and if I find that he's stomped another baby, that's it. I'm going to put the new mom and her little ones in their own run to help protect them, at least until the chickies are a little bigger. Grrr.....

CYnthia, how could you tell that your chick was ok? I checked on this one this morning, and it just didn't seem quite right.

Brad's right, parrots are soooooo much more work. We had a blue faced amazon for a while. However, he *hated* my one daughter. Really hated her. If we had him out in the front room, he would attack her if she came in the room. He got lonely and upset if we kept him in my son's room. We finally had to rehome him because he started attacking everyone but my son and I. We gave him to a guy in Spanish Fork who keeps him in his store during the day. A few months after we gave him up, we went to visit him. We walked in the room, and he got one look at me and attacked. I guess he blamed me for the disruption? I still have scars on my arm from it because I didn't want to hurt him when he latched on. What was interesting is most of the phrases we taught him, he never said again for the new owner. He said completely new things we never heard, like "Wake up Stupid!!!". He used to say "I love you" all day long to us, but the new guy has said he's never heard that come out of the bird. I still feel like a failure because we gave him up, but really, it came down to my kids' safety.

i now have a timneh african grey, a meyers parrot and a miligold macaw, the miligold is a cross of a military macaw and a blue and gold macaw. macaws need huge cages, i can actually stand up in my macaws cage... they are very fun. they are like a can opener with wings lol. parrots tend to waste a lot of food so my chickens end up with a few lbs of very fancy food a week lol. i am sure i can hook you up with a lot of feathers if you want :) parrots are so smart, the african greys are the smartest, they have the intelligence of a 12 year old and you can have conversations with them. you should look up einstein the african grey on youtube. but one thing that drives me crazy is when people get parrots just because they talk... it makes a lot of work for us in parrot rescue... if you ever decide to get a parrot let me know and i can help you out :D

I took some pictures of my Exchequers this morning for kimmy...can you tell which ones look a bit like cockerels? Actually, one has a lot larger wattles than the other, even though the comb is big, it's not as big as the one up front looking at me..so, wondering about the other one, but pretty sure that the one in the back in the second picture is a pullet. See my Blue Ameraucana? Love that dark blue!
He almost looks like he has lipstick on! :)
See the pullet in the back? I have been putting my blue in with the big girls at night. Getting them used to each other. She's still afraid of them. Slowly but surely.

Shinx, did you just take the tape off..or what ever it was you used? They walk funny at first..they get used to having the tape on, then within a day or two, they walk normal. Kind of funny to watch..just as long as the legs are staying together while they walk like a drunk. lol..
